Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

It was absolutely beautiful.

Now we go back to more rain. Hopefully just for one day. I should have taken some pics of my yard. Everywhere you looked, there were chickens laying stretched out in the sun.

I learned in 5th grade and never knitted again! I wanna make chicken sweaters and open my own Etsy shop!

Do it TO!

Praise the Lord the duck hatch is going much better than the ill-fated chicks. So far 6 out, and at least 2 more pips. 3 Runners and 3 Welsh Harlequins; am crossing fingers for more Welshies. The Runners came with some chicken eggs I swapped for. And I thought chicks were rough in the bator; ducks are like ex-football hockey players!

Got the garden tilled today. Gonna let it dry a bit then till at least once more. This is our 4th year, and it's so nice to have richer soil and fewer rocks each subsequent year. I lovelovelove DH's grandparents - they gave us their Troybilt last fall.

good morning, another surprise hatch going on.. chickens this time.. I must have missed logging in a whole batch.. IDK why I even try to keep records..

anyhow, on the logged in battle front, we have 3 turkeys, and two ducks . lots of pips this morning of both..

I was going to set 5 peahen eggs last night, but I have no room to put them in either bator.
Now with the surprise hatching eggs in bator #1 I will have at least one tray freed up.

Amy, you will have that Troy Bilt for a long time.. I bought mine in 1977.. they are very repairable, not that they hardly ever need to be.. For a couple of years, I did custom garden tilling.. good money in that, and hardly no competition..

the main drawback is Tine replacement cost.. very $$$ !! You can get aftermarket tines, for a bit less if you search the web.. I am on my 4th set.. the first set cost me about $48.oo.. Now they are over $300.oo.. If you learn how to weld, you can resurface the cutting edges.. It would have cost me $10.oo per tip to have it done.. that is 16 tips times $10.oo = $160.oo

If you are going to do potatoes, the hiller attachment is nice to have.. You can pick these up on craigs list or ebay from people who bought them but never used them..

I ordered 100 pounds of seed potatoes last night.. they will be here tomorrow.. 50# each of Kannebeck (sp) and 50# of Russets.. that should take care of one row for us.. I have a long garden.. about 50 feet wide and a little over 150 feet long..
our other seeds should be coming from Jung this week. the check has cleared the bank already..

I pull my old 2 row corn planter back and forth in the garden after I plant the corn, to mark the rest of the rows.. then every row is spaced for the tractor cultivators.. and later for the Troy Bilt.
when the corn gets too high to slide under the tractor axle..

Annie insisted that we plant a half pound each of green and yellow beans.. She has some people who don't plant a garden come each year and pick .. Gotta have enough for everybody, eh?

I still have to go get the plants like cabbage, broccoli, brussel sprouts, etc.. from the Amish green house .. Awesome good plants..

last night I finished all the dividers in the drawer shelf and got all the glider tracks installed.. today is adjustment time on the drawers.. I have tools in one of the drawers already.. One drawer holds my skilsaw , my big 6" grinder and still room for a coupld of smaller tools..

after I fill the drawers with the power tools, I will still have such a mess to straighten out that I don't know where to begin.. I promised myself that if I get the shop all cleaned out, I am going to build a new set of cabinets in our kitchen/dining room.. TerriO saw the mismatched conglomeration I have in the dining area.. she can testify that we need to update.. There will be floor to ceiling shelving along the edge of the stairway instead of that short wall..

but first, I am going to get some breakfast..

Good Wet Morning All. We need the rain! Think fishin will be postponed till tomorrow. Jim there is no such thing as extra crappies and you know it. I like shelves for most of the tools. Otherwise it's outta sight outta mind. Sometimes I'll be staring right at it and can't find it. I hate that! Angie have to agree with EL that's the scariest, longest black snake I've ever seen!

I made the mistake of telling Laura that if she went outside of the camper at night to make sure she made noise because of the bears. Now I have to go with.

Sounds like everyone is having a fantastic hatch!

Was gonna mow yesterday but after a walkabout decided it can wait a little longer. So I went to Donny's and did his driveway instead. Much more better now! Think I missed my calling, shoulda been a landscaper. Chicken, ducks, and geese pics galore! Would like to see some pics of those turkey babies Jim. Thinking they have to be pretty ugly! CRS better get somethin done.

Jim you really ARE a chicken god... Or a chicken wise guy... Your hatching always amazes me!

I have one chick so far. It's lav/Porcelein/ something Orps. I also have the first pip last night, pipped at the wrong end. I am going to be helping him out. I am being very careful and watching for the fresh blood thing. Putting him back in the Bator for several hours. I will probably move the other pipped egg quickly to the hatcher in the basement so it doesn't keep being exposed to reduced humidity. Yeah yeah yeah... Leave them all alone. Well... it's not gonna, happen so don't chastise me....:p

DrH, actually baby turkeys are very pretty.. they have an almost Disneylike face..

I just moved 3 chicks to the quail TV temporarily, and put a dozen eggs into the hatcher.. I still have to locate a tray of Apr 24 Del/Barock eggs.. I did have them logged in, I just forgot to write them down on my list for transfer..

Going to try and post pics of my new peeps...

First the Barred Silkie if it can be called that...

Next come the Marans

#1

Maran #2

Maran #3

So what are the thoughts?
Hens or Roos?

I am ready for opinions... They are all Blue or Blue Copper Marans.

KEN
It looks like #1 is a cockeral, #2 looks to be a blue copper pullet and with #3 that one looks like it's comb is bigger than #2 but hard to tell from the picture. It might take a few more months to tell if the 2 not showing any copper will start showing copper. I have 1 hen who is close to a year old and she is a blue copper and show very little. Cute babies!

Hey All!
I got stomach flu Monday night from eating KFC on Saturday, DH has it to, but less than me. Monday night sucked... yesterday sucked...
And I think I am finally getting better today.
I have lost 2 pullets from Ideal. I need to see what their policy is.
I have two Jaerhons hatched under my broody at the barn, she still has a pile of eggs from the flock, so I am watching her to see how well she and the chicks are doing.
Well time to go get coffee.
BLEH...

Yesterday was gorgeous! The kids and I got out for a walk in the evening. Just lovely!

What do you all sell your eggs for? I've told people that I can't SELL them because I'm not a business and don't really want to be, but if they'd like to donate a couple of dollars for a dozen they could. I just don't want to get into inspections and certifications.

I'm also looking for ideas on movable run ideas for the new coop. Any suggestions? links? pics?
