Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

JOE!!! Look up Australian Spotted Ducks. I am imcubating some right now as my first ducks. They are bantam ducks. They are quiet ducks. They are very interesting to look at. They are FRIENDLY to people (aka no worries with kids). They are also decent layers, laying cream, BLUE, or GREEN eggs! They also are excellent mothers. I have 16 viable right now, with 2 weeks to go. I would be more than happy to have your girlfriend come and adopt a couple! She could have cute a selection to choose from if they keep going like they are! Google them!

I googled them and they are a cute duck for sure. I am flipping through DGF raising duck book and I see she has Australian Spotted checked off as a duck she wanted, I will have to check with her when she gets home. Right now we have about 60 Muscovy and 12 pekings in the incubator for a friend of mine. I traded him for 300' of 6' qualine fence so it will be hard to get any of those, but we will see.

I really like the idea of a smaller duck, as I will be the one buying all of the feed!

I went to a 4H poultry meeting today and we played a game where you had to identify 35 breeds of birds. They had pictures of ducks, geese and turkeys. I was the only person to get them all correct. I think I have a problem.
Not here, sound perfectly normal to us!

I just hatched a really strange looking chick. Turns out my silkie mix rooster got with one of my lavender orpingtons. It has black skin amd the 5th toe is fused to the 4th.
Cool! We need pics! Hope the fused toes don't cause a problem.

I think you got the best end on that deal weather you get ducks out of it or not!

I only got 1 response so far to my add for the chicks and she only has a coop with no electric, She may need older chicks.

Good evening all--just got home from a "cocktail party" for my boss who is retiring. I hear the person taking over is a nasty B! One of the waitresses lives next door and she says she is very difficult to live next door to...I am keeping an open mind! So the boss did a nice speech, the food was good and so were the cocktails.BBP--you make me laugh...of course you got them all right! We all probably would have...chickens are our life! LOL!

So I had people come today to get eggs (MXM) and then another woman and her girls came over to buy chickens! I sold 15 of my newly hatched blues and Aussies! I am glad cause more are hatching!

DH just came in and he wants to take care of the cat so I better get to it! More later...including pics! Terri O

Rainy evening all!

EL-Awwwww....that is a pullet egg...very cute! They usually law a few of those right out of the gate so to speak....The eggs will start to get bigger as the hen lays more.

BBP-LOL!! I had to read DH your post about the 4-H meeting.....He laughed but did not see a problem knowing all the breeds. If it make you feel better, you can always tell your self that your studying to become a poultry show judge....

MJ-So sorry to hear of your losses-Your in my thoughts and prayers....

Angie! I love your house and yard and chicks! I so want a big plot of land with coveted "out buildings"....DH wouldn't want outbuildings...I'd "collect" things with fur and feathers....

Welcome Twizzle....I almost called you Twizzler LOL!! Oh great now that is stuck in my head.....Anywhoooo....Welcome and hope you enjoy our little part of BYC!

Well, just wanted to catch up....got the rabbits all covered and the girls are all in bed. I have to go close up the coop though...I best go do that before I forget or procrastinate ....
Later

Thanks MLH

So asking again-does anyone have any experience with chickens and using weed/fertilzer (granular) on grass? How long do the chickens have to stay off it to make 100% sure that its safe for them?? And is the "pasture safe" any safer for chickens then regular?
