This is why we test for pollurum (aka salmonella) at hatcheries (supposedly), when people sell chickens , mail chickens, take to swaps, shows,,,etc. At least the responsible backyard flock owners do. I have yet to see a swap or show that lets any chicken past the gate that hasn't been tested. And in the state of Wisconsin at least, according to a friend of mine, there hasn't been a positive for 40 some years.
