Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

So guess what we got today?

20 SLW! haha:) All from the same guy we got our pullets from. Noticed some of the darlings have single combs, but most of them have peacombs. Not sure what I'll do with 22 chickens that are identical, but there's plenty of room in the coop!

Twizzle: Cute x 20!!! I rcvd one of those today!!!

So i gave water with Save a Chick and a sprinkle of sugar.....they all acted really thirsty and perked right up...however, one of them they started holding its head back..and jsut a few mins ago threw up the water...is this normal? Like over did it a lil with the drinking?

Mazo -- Those are sooo cute.

Dr. H --- That would be awesome, I have no clue when we may be out that way though.

angie -- congrats on the new babies

Twizz - congrats very cute

Ang- Doesnt sound good. I hope it perks up and is ok.

Well the babies are here. All seem healthy this time and fiesty. All drinking and eating, walking around and chirping. Hopefully all these guys will live since they are the replacements from my previous order. I just want to be done with Meyer and shipped chicks. I'll be much happier when its my own flock making the babies. :) Anywho here is a pic of my 4 new babies.

Going back out to try and get another coat on Peatwo, this ought to be fun. Maybe some pics too.

I think the ad was referring to blue copper marans as producing splash, not the lavender orpingtons.
Dah, I see that now !!!! I must have been nipping. Although I was suppose to get Lavender bantam cochin eggs and I got all blue's and blacks. Someone on that end didn't know blue from lavender !!!

My chicks are here my chicks are here!

All look healthy and strong. However, there were only 7 not 8-one of the lil sexed banty cochins wasnt in there. Which means I would need to order another 7 or 8 to get it :-(. I am thinking it was the sexed frizzle which was the primary reason I went thru MPC
glad they arrived!

Let us know what the hatchery has to say about your short order. I was thinking of checking them out but not if they don't give you a good reason for the missing chick.

Vicki-Just got off the phone witht hen. She was very helpful and no arguement about it at all. Said it showed it shipped but musthave been a packing error and they will credit my card with the amount within 7 to 10 business days. Also said to let them know if I have any issues with the others within the next 48 hrs.... Then went on to give advice for the one that threw up water...(give yogurt and scrambled egg)....and she also hhelped me try and figure out which chick was what. I have 2 brown chipmunks 1 gray/black chipmunk and one black with gray specks above/behind eye. Of these 4 they are: GL & SL wyandotte, EE, and Sussex. I have the Sussex picked out but the other 3 are confusing. It owuld be unusual to have a black EE-but thats what its looking like. May need to post pics here.

thank you for the follow up info~glad to hear they dealt with you so well. Oh, and of course, LOTS of pics!!!

Ang- Glad the chicks are doing well! The hatchery gave some good advice on that chick. The first question I had was your water cold when you gave it to them? Sometimes chicks can do that from having cold tap water to drink. I always use room temp bottle water for the first 7 days or so. However, keep an close eye on that one. Sometimes a chick will have a genetic deformity in their craw and that throwing up water is a sign. Hopefully your little one is just stressed and will bounce back well. In all the hundreds of chicks I've brooded, I've only had that happen a handful of times, oddly mostly with banty or meat birds...
Sav-A-Chick is great!! I use that for the first 3 days or until the chicks get really perky. Sometimes that's the next day and other times they take a little longer to bounce back from shipping. It sounds like your on the right track!!

As far as feed goes, the medicated feed is ok...BUT....if you had MPC vaccinate them for Cocci (not sure if MPC offers this!) do not feed the medicated feed!!! We (Dh and I) have heard of problems people are having with feeding the medicated feed to chicks vaccinated against Cocci. The vaccine is a live vaccine given to the chicks and the medication in the feed starts to react to the vaccine. Nutrena does make a medicated chick feed-it's in their Country Feed line of poultry feed. I think it's called 18% Medicated Chick Starter....

MJ, Apyl and Twiz-You are all on my list!!! Posting cute chick pics!! And Twiz! how dare you post a pic that adorable!
