Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Those kittens are too cutE...wish I could talk dh into one but he really doesn't like them.
So I I think we are going to ask the in laws to come back from their conference early and take care of the dog... I can't make a decision at the vet for them...they need to do it. But looks like all food and water is not staying down which means it is a matter of time. My son is really upset about it and sure that dd will be too when we tell them. thanks for the well wishes on that. The dog used to be ours before kids so we feel some responsibility here too..

On a happy note... Starting to set up for my huge rummage sale next weekend. Clearing out the house and kid stuff. It all needs to go. It will seriously take me most of the week to set up and convince the kids not to take everything back off the table!

FT... Can you threaten her that the horse is in such horrible shape she could lose it or take less money....hate to say that but...it needs some help. And you are a sweet person for wanting to do that... Good luck.

Not a whole lot going on around here. Trying to sell 14 peeps on Craig's List with no luck, going to take them to the swap next weekend. I really need to clean my coop out. I got the brooder box cleaned out and ready for the peeps they will going in on Sunday Afternoon.

I gotta ride out to Hill City, MN in a few minutes for a "church" meeting. The Summer is starting to ramp up and we are getting ready for all the Summer business. The good news is I can take the Motorcycle and no one really care that I come rolling in on it.

It has been Hot up here in the upper 80s and humid the past couple of days. Had a wedding last night and the reception today. Lots to do and even more to get excited about.

Enjoy the day and think of me as you take a break with a case of cold ones.

carrot fairy. LOL Yup Angie hang the big kids feeder higher. Man Peatwo does not appreciate the young roo's doin the 2 second drill with HIS wimmins. Fun to watch tho! Not them doin it , Peatwo's reaction. Saw Old Blue in a nest box yesterday and got a poult egg later so now not sure if she's laying or just thinkin about it. Up at 5 today got the second coat of stain on the base board. Have one piece to measure, cut, and stain then the room will be ready for carpet and curtains. CRAP just remembered the closet needs base board too. CRAP! Also pulled the headboard off the bed and finish sanded a hole that I missed and had to patch and painted that. Everything will be dry by suppertime and will nail it in place. Sure looks weird in there with all the trim in place. Kinda like a real room again.

good AM, going to be another great day in Wisconsin !!

Dan, I like to finish my meat birds out on natural grains.. I have had good results with ground oats and corn..

going to mulch the peppers and broccoli today.. give everything a good watering and sit back and wait for some rain..

my beans are all up and looking good.. advice: plant beans, they make anybody look like a good gardener..

FT- That's awful D: Poor guy, he would be such a handsome horse if he gained a few pounds(or a hundred...). I wish I could afford the vet bills to rescue horses. I have 34 acres of fenced in horse pasture with a nice barn, but no animals :p I don't think he looks too much older than 10, but I could be wrong easily.

Lost a SLW chick today, it was pasted up. Wish i would have noticed it before... Did a butt check this morning to see if any others were sickly and we seem to be doing just fine:)

hi & welcome-
I live in mequon, we got to fleet farm in g-towm- price seems to be the best.
cedarburg mill has limited choices, and Boelke hardware in friestadt has many choices and are local & full of information-see Jean.
When we head up north, on the way back in we stop at the princeton seed/feed mill, that's where we get our flax seed.
Good Luck!

Morning everyone!

ok, sooooooooo, who was bragging about having airconditioning????? Never bothered to get it up here when we put up the house years ago. We rarely had a day above 80 and never had a 90o day. What happened? Darn global warming!!!

I got all my chores done really early so I only have to do only what I feel like doing the rest of the day. I feel so sorry for you folks with a lot of livestock. Hope you have huge pastures with lots of shade. I'm wierd (no comments!) I know but I actually miss the farm when it got hot. The kids were small then and we would have a lot of fun hosing down the goats and "momma moo" our milk cow and getting ourselves soaked in the process of course

I'm back! Did you miss me?

Washer was done and I had to run outside and hang up my sheets. Blankets in now. figure it should take all of 20 minutes to dry today but it will be so nice to crawl into fresh sheets this evening.

DH is off to the dump with all the junk I cleaned out of our extra (aka storage) cottage, my workshop and my garden shed yesterday. That has needed done for EVER but I finally did it
thumbsup.gif
Now, I have threatened my DH that I was going after "manland" aka "his" garage, woodshed, tool shed, workshed (and of course behind all of them) if he doesn't get after them and start cleaning them out. Boy, did his eyes get big!
lau.gif
His idea of "cleaning out" when he runs out of room is to go drop a couple trees and build another shed!
th.gif
His favorite saying? "But I might need that later". Even tho he hasn't seen the item I am holding up for years and didn't even remember he had
smack.gif
I definitely got a good one and I love him to pieces
love.gif
but I hate to think what it would be like if we didn't have so much room for him "store" stuff!

Back to chickens~Gave my girls a new treat this morning. Probably their first taste of milk. I mixed in a scrambled egg and some expensive little dog kibble that "miss spoiled" refused to eat. What a hoot! They dove into that so hard I was glad I didn't put it in a deeper dish, somebody would have drowned!
lau.gif
I found a weak shelled egg this morning and thought this would be a fun way to get them a little extra calcium and protein (and to make sure they ate and drank before it got too hot).

Have a safe and cool weekend everyone!

Ken~ please be careful on your bike this weekend.

There are a lot of people on the road this morning in a huge hurry to get to their cabins etc.

Good Morning all, yes I know it's 1:42am still night for me and Cind but morning for all of you !!!

Anyway, where to start. Remember yesterday I went to get feed in Embarass, Bigzios feed store..... and I was going to share my day later? Well here it is and it has turned into a small night mare or should I say gelding !!!! I am so upset about all of this my head is spinning.

First of all, going back to yesterday. On my way down to the feed store I spotted an estate sale so I decided to stop.
Well, no one was outside. I noticed a dog kennel and heard a small dog barking from inside of it. I looked inside and there was a toy poodle. And she had 4 puppies. (Just so you all know, I had 3 toy poodles up until two years ago. They were all sisters and have since passed away. I LOVE toy poodles)
Anyway, I knocked on the door and no one answered. The puppies were sitting in the sun in the kennel. So I knelt down, moved some avon bottles that she had sitting next to her stuffed chair (yes outside) and moved the kennel to the shade. Just then the woman came outside.
Got to talking about the adorable pups and then I noticed she had a sign that said "horse" and "puppies" for sale.

I then asked her what kind of horse (just to be nosey) Well, it is a Percheron/Appaloosa cross !!!! WELL you all know I love my draft horses !!!
He is white with black spots (she said he was lepord spots but after seeing him it is a blanket)
Anyway, I had to leave to go to the feed mill but stopped at DH work and told him about the pups and horse. I said "It must be meant to be" LOL
She said the pups are $300 each and the horse with saddle, bridle, fencing... everything $4000 !!! WOW I thought that was high.
So anyway, didn't get back from the feed store in time to look at the horse (he was at a different place)
So today I drove over to her house (actually her late mothers house where the sale was) and asked if she could show me the horse.
I was envisioning a white percheron with a lot of black spots all over him.

THIS IS WHAT I FOUND !!!!!!! SHOCKING !!!
.

When I got there his halter was so tight it was digging into his nose. I told her to loosen the buckle and lower it on his nose. You can see the depth that it got embedded into his nose. She went into the house to get some Blue Kote. I offered to help her do it otherwise who knows if she would have done it. I took these pictures while she was in the house. She brought out a fly mask and we put it on but later when I went back to show DH the poor guy it was off already.
His eyes especially the left one is oozing out yellow clumpy crap. She said they had flushed his nose/tear duct but didn't help. I think she said the vet did it but ?????
She is putting vasaline around the eyes.
She said she has had him for 10 years and that he has always been this thin and was never able to put weight on. She said the vet gave him a block of something to eat and it went through him and it was determined that he was chewing ok. She said he wasn't eating his hay or didn't like hay??
When I got there he had two empty 5 gallon buckets for water. No hay. She had told me that her DH was going to stop on his way to work and give him hay, I did see 2 bales in the back seat of his car. When I brought DH over to see him there was no hay and no water. And there was no water spiket outside to give him water and she had brought the pails in the house. We then drove over to her Mom's house and told her we brought him some hay but he needed water. She said her DH was going to bring it to him after work. Argggghhh.

I told her I would give the horse a good home and that he needed vet care. She just said her sister was bring the saddle over from Rhinelander tomorrow.
There is no way that horse is worth any money.. Plus she said he is spooky and bolted with her on his back headed toward the highway and if her sister had not been pulling into the driveway he may not have stopped.
She said she had to tie him with the chains (for only two weeks) yah right because he smells the mama bear and her cubs and he bolts through the fence.

DH said it that horse has been in that condition for 10 years she should be arrested. She said her DH cuts the grass and give him the clippings which I could see.
I would love the chance to bring him home and fatten him up. What worrys me is his eye discharge.
She says he hasn't been dewormed for a year. I doubt it's been that recent.
I can see she doesn't have any money and this is part of the problem. I'd sure like to know where the $4000 comes into play. Must be one nice saddle !!!
I've decided that Butt dog doesn't want another small dog to infringe on her turf. We let her see the pups and she had nothing to do with them. She's an old lady dog and will get all of our attention until the day she is no longer with us. Made me feel so guilty thinking about getting one of those pups. But then again after Butts is gone one day i'll feel the guilt when I get another one. Can't win.

So what to do about this poor horse. He looks in worse shape then the stallion that the neighbor rescued. I took the camera with me today so I could get a picture of him but he must have been behind the barn. Oh and I saw a poor chipmunk drowned in his water trough.

So guess I'll be starting a rescue fund to save the horse, Cody is his name.......... Pm me for my PayPal address !!! LOL

Seriously what do all of you horse people think ????? She said he is about 15 yrs old. Does he look like he could be older ???

I seriously hate some people sometimes !!!!!

Ps the chain was actually put on with a lock on his halter and on the shelter. There would be no safe way to undo that lock in an emergency. And the weight of that chain will just did a new spot on his nose.
this is very sad- he looks liek he would be very handsome if properly care for. Are there any horse resucue groups that could be contacted- I know there are groups down here and probably like anything else full.

Any suggestions on how to make it easier for the girls in this heat? Its only 10 am and half of them are already panting. THe coop barn stays 10-20 degrees color as its an old cement barn...should I lock them up for the midday heat? They have plenty of room inside....Ice cubes in a dish?

Also I have one hen that looks like shes been just a lil "off" the past few days. Standing around, occasionally with closed eyes......first to go roost at night way before the others....didnt run out to free range when the others were let out.....wsa acting broody 3 days ago and I chanced her off the nest. her droppings are very watery but otherwise normal in color. I gave her a couple drops of NutriDrench and added some to their water....gave them all eggs, yogurt and necterine thiis morning. Any other suggestions or just watch her? Shes out and about just a lil off for the past week. (and crabby I might add)
