Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

We ended up with just a little under 1/2 an inch of rain here.... enough to make it really muggy outside.

We are all headed down to the company picnic tomorrow. They hold it at the Milwaukee zoo every year, I would like to get down there as early as possible so we can come home at a decent time.

Nothing else to report, just trying to formulate a proposed ordinance and a presentation in my head..... and of course a small article for the paper.

Congrats Terri! Glad those goofy little chickens won!

Amy, those are chickens..

11 of 12 hatched. 8 of 11 are under Reese Peanut Butter Cup, our Partridge Bantam Cochin. After initial rejection this afternoon she took them this evening. The light is off and all 8 are under her.

The 3 Seramas that hatched are going to hang out inside till we can sex them and find them homes.

Built a grow out pen right next to the chicken run. The box is 3'x2' and the run is 3x10. I have 2 pullets and a roo growing in there with 4 meaties that will see the freezer in a month or two. So now I have 5 main transition points for my backyard farm: Incubator, Warming Box, Brooding Box, Grow Out Pen and Main Coop (or Meaties Cage).

It is not pretty but it is workable.

Thanks for the quick answers to questions,

KEN

Thanks for the tree condolences, everyone.

Not a drop of rain here.

Ken, my broodie had 5 eggs hatch in 2 days (Sat. & Sun.), then the last 2 eggs went into the bator & hatched on Wed. & Thurs. I had no idea how or if she would accept them, but I took a chick, cupped in my hand, and held it in front of her. She didn't do anything, but the chick looked to its left, then to its right, then dove right under her. It was the cutest thing. The following night I tried the same thing, but since this one looked a little different color, she tried to peck at it. I gave her a little tap on the beak, then she lifted up a wing & the chick went under. She never had a problem with them after that. But I had a great momma broodie. Not all hens are going to act the same. I'm glad you didn't have any problems.

Terri, wow, that cake looks delish! You gonna make some for the southern bash?

Congrats on the ribbons for it and your pullet!

Bigz, I'm glad you & Jennie had a good time at the car show. I haven't been there in........hmmm, a while.

Bl4, have a safe journey! Hope it is lots of fun at the zoo. I haven't been there in a while, either.

Not much to report here either. Like Cind & DrH, I have no life. Sweet dreams, all!

Hi all!

Jim... the guy that bought the young roosters (and ducks) , dose he get them eatin' age or dose he grow 'em out a bit himself? And a question about guineas... what age are they best for eating?

Bf4m... sounds like you had quite a day! Loved the kids plays when they were in school.

BBP...A horse in foal is a great 2 for 1! Yea, it'll be really to raise and train too!

CC... yep, no more "Green Acres" here either!

Twiz... Cute peeps!

TO...

must be doing something right!

cs... nice to know about that type of stove! My son was going to give me his (I didn't really want it) but with 4 cats... it's another reason to not have it!

ken... congrats on the hatch!

another dull day.... Night!

Well, we got some stuff like "God Sneezed" lol Ground was damp in a few spots, the car had a few spots, and all but a couple spots of the deck was dry.

I don't even think it could be measured at all. D@mn it!

Our rain gauge says that we got an inch of rain, BUT I wonder whether there was water in there previously from watering? There's no way we got that much. Is there?

Anyways, on the stove side, I would definitely NOT recommend a touch top stove if you have cats or kids!!!! We lock ours, but it either has a short lock period and unlocks itself or the cats know how to unlock it!

On the chicken front, no eggs so far. I haven't check this morning however.

My BFF informed me that some people down the road from us appear to have chickens. She said that it looks like they have a chicken coop because the building has a walk-up ramp like ours! Well this is very exciting to me and I'll have to investigate. We are not allowed to have chickens, ducks, or any fowl/birds/etc. It would be nice to have another person close by and if either of us get caught, we have at least one other person to help change the ordinances.

My 2 step kids (DD9 and DS8) are visiting us for the weekend. They live here but just like my daughter DD11 (who visits dad), they go visit their mom over the summer. DD9 and I have to fill out paperwork this morning for the pageant that she wants to do. She has never done one before, but a few girls in her girl scout troop have and she wants to try it. It doesn't appear bad from the details that we got at the information session. It costs $35 and she needs 2 inexpensive dresses. Mainly its about slumber parties and pool parties, and then community service if you win.

I'm getting hungry, I be back later.

Good Morning Everyone! Bigz glad you had a fun day! And some of the worlds best lager. IMHO Don't go blamin me for getting this bunch of freaks together. I believe it was, lets see who's missing, oh ya fm that started it. As far as the ugly contest I get the blue ribbon. Cind god sneezed.

So Tiki your to blame for this heat. Don't think there's a fox around man have I got the rabbits, of all sizes. Dang rain gets this far and fizzles out. Going to dig new reds today and L will make her to die for garlic recipe. Was watering the garden last night and the younger crowd would stand right at the edge of the sprinklers travel. You could almost hear a collective sigh as the water cycled through. More heat comin

If you have cats AND a touch top stove, you may be suffering from the same thing that we are! I claim that our cats are trying to kill us. They walk across the top of the oven while chasing each other and set the oven temp and frequently turn on the oven! We were awaken one night by the smoke alarm, a first floor full of smoke, and the oven set at 500 and on! The sad thing is only 1 of 5 people in the house heard it! My daughter came in to wake me up!
yuckyuck.gif
but sooooooooo true! Never had a touch stove (thank heaven) but did have a touch lamp I had to move from my nightstand because the cat would turn the thing off and on when she wanted me to get up and feed her!

Morning all!
Just a quick catch up before I start the day in earnest!
We got a few spits of rain at one point during the night/morning but that was it. The weather people said get got 0.001 of an inch yesterday. *sigh*. Dh was like that will help! I said not really, Just help the sauna like conditions. I told him that we need more rain and for 3-4 days in a row. He did not believe me until the weather person said the same thing last night! LOL!

Vicki-What CC said!

30 day quarentine. If the birds get something near the end when I quarentine, then I hold them another 14 from the last day of treatment. I start quarentine with then on Vi&E's and sugar water for the first few days to help get them over the stress of movement and adjusting to a new place. That seems to help them quite a bit. But that is just what I do. I used to do that when I showed my birds, so it's habit for me.

BL4-have fun at the zoo!!

Who ever posted the chicks pic! Twizz ? CS? cute pic!!! Cute babies! (Sorry I can't remember who's babies they are!!!)

Well, I best get going, got to gather stuff for the dump run!
Laters!
