Not much important, just too hot to do anything, again. Went to Edgar yesterday and really enjoyed it. I think I like that sort of stuff more than hubby. I love watching the old machines doing their thing. Guess because I was a country girl and hubby grew up a city kid. Actually took me a while to convert him
Came home with an old egg basket from the flea market. Not as "antique" as I was looking for (one of those that has been dipped in a yellow rubber coating) but I haggled a good price. Still looking for a really old one. Anyone have a lead for me?
Noodle and Broody Butt are doin' good. That chicken cracks me up! I have never in my life seen a hen throw temper fits like her!!!
Don't let her out when she wants? Flaps and squacks likes she's been stepped on! Open the pop hole and she squacks, flaps and LAUNCHES herself out w/o ever touching the ramp! Then turns around and comes back in for her chick. Put her and Noodle in before she's ready? She throws a fit in the cage sending everything flying! Don't open the cage fast enough? Thinks she's missing out on something the other girls are getting? You guessed it. Now it's even funnier because she is molting
everywhere so when she throws a fit she disappears in a cloud of flying feathers!
Yet with all her "bravado", I can pick her up any time without any attempt to peck and she totally trusts me with Noodle. And best of all, she is a SUPER mom
Had a scare this morning. I had just let the girls out into the garden so Mom and Noodle could have the run for a while in peace and come back into the house when I saw a large shadow fall over over the window and travel toward the coop! I hit the porch just in time to see a large hawk land in the top of a tree just behind the garden cottage which is only yards from the coop/run!!!
I never broke stride toward the run.
There was Momma, frozen and growling like crazy with little Noodle directly behind her, down in hole, next to the coop, actually buried in the straw, lying so flat I had to really look to even see it!
GOOD MOMMA!!!!
I chased off the hawk, let momma settle down and decided they should go play in the coop now
whew!
I'm down to one egg a day, only my biggest hen, Soup, is still laying. StirFry is still re-cooping from whatever happened and I'm not sure why Crockpot isn't laying. She was off her feed for a day or two altho seems to be doing fine now. Might be molting too, just not as dramatically as Momma. This crazy weather isn't helping anything either.
Have to go check on the girls now. It's clouding up here but still pretty hot so more fresh water for everyone.
Hope your itches get better soon Jim
Hi to all the fellow newbies! Pull up a perch and roost a while
Ghost Rider~I know what you mean about vets. I really miss my old clinic. Never had that problem, they ALWAYS called back, followed up, etc. but the woman that bought the clinic when he retired? Lets just say the last 2 original vets just left for places unknown and even the great techs and front girls are all gone.
Don't know if I should tell you but dogs usually stop eating before they pass. It's not trying to starve to death, it's just they are no longer hungry because things are beginning to shut down. Know from my time as a vet tech and from personal experience with my own beloved "best friend" that passed from a failing heart a couple years ago as well as helping others with their loved ones.
