Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I need help and any info/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
My red star Grace has what I think is a prolapsed vent. She has been looking a little rough for awhile, but acts completley normal. Today when I was out there she pooped and I saw this huge red tissue thing hanging out of her butt. It was the size of a plum, and did not go back in. What do I do with that, and will she get better?

make sure the area is clean- no dirt on the red tissue- could possible use a saline solution-like a soft contact lens solution. you will have to carefully attempt to push it gently back in. If the other chickens notice it they may start picking at her. I would put her in her own pen by herself and see how she does for the next few days and if the tissue stays in- maybe keep her dark so she doesn't lay eggs and push it back out again. good Luck

Anybody out there have an old incubator they want to get rid of or one they could lend/rent to me for a batch? I just recieved some fertilized eggs rather than the chicks I was expecting and only have a couple days to get them into an incubator. Would like to do it as a classroom project for my students.

Thanks,

Wet Afternoon All...don't feel like getting soaked tonight, so no bow hunting today. The deer ar safe one more night..LOL!

Thanks for the tip on the 028 unk....yep, it was a great deal and someone beat me to it....I think he knows now that he sold it cheaper than he had to. I woulda snapped it up at that price for sure.

Glad you were happy with the maters kris. Nothing like success.
Sounds like the tractor will be running soon Jim. Big job for sure.

Good advice on the prolapsed vent judge...once it's good and clean, you can use a little preperation H when you gently push it in....isolation a real good idea. Good Luck!

Good job with the salsa TO...we should taste test everyones at the next summer bash...always plenty of chips and hungry folks.
that aren't bias...like me....

I don't hink I posted the V8 juice before....kinda easy peasy....

tomatoes cored and skins slipped chopped for a little faster cooking down time
green peppers , onions, celery, carrots, beets, cabbage and spinach if I have it.

Clean and chop all your veggies ahead of time then it's ready to add to the tomatoes when you get them ready.

I usually do like 12 quarts of tomatoes at a time ( I have a 4 qt, measuring bowl)
So per 12 qt s. I usually use
3 peppers
2-3 onions depending on their size
4 ribs of celery ( leaves to if it has them)
4 carrots thinly sliced they take longer to break down
1-2 beets again depends on their size
2-3 cups of cabbage
nice handful fresh spinach

Put in a kettle and cook till the veggies are done. Keep checking tho so it doesn't stick. Not sure how long I always eyeball it. When I think it's the right consistency, then I turn it off and let it cool awhile before I put it through my sauce master. (Oh and don't throw out the stuff from the jucier the chickens love it !!)
Then put the strained juice in abother kettle, cook for ten min. jar up with a t. salt in qt jar 1/2 t in pt jar, process in pressure canner for 15 min. pints and qts. 5lbs pressure.
Any questions just holler.

Enjoy! Each batch tastes a little different depending on the ratio and size of veggies....always delicious.

Sorry I thought donny was bryon Doc.

you prolly gave bryon the high five, so we're good, eh!

Good score on the walker Cind. Nice to have when you need it.

One of the light brahmas had a big fresh mouse today and was shaking it around..when one of the buckeyes came to check it out..the brahma swallowed the whole mouse whole...just the tip of the tail was sticking out.....couple of gasps and she walked off like....that was good!
Gotta love those pretty hens.

You all should know better..... research is what I DO.

I have had to look up schematics for my DH on his tractor, so this was quick and painless.

Z, the 028 is a discontinued model...... so if you do happen to find one I would snap it up. My DH has one and loves it (I think the guy owns 6 different saws total). He is very interested in the tractor repairs and the chainsaw issues.... he can get his own account though.

The Dean is throwing a 'Back to school' party on Friday.... I told the one prof I would make a GF cheesecake (chocolate). I will let you know how it turns out.

I think I am finally getting my son's cold...... just in time for MLH's DH to come give his seminar!!!!!

thanks for the instructions on the V8 juice- will be book marking so I have it :)

BabyLady -way to go get that mudfest!

Kristi- Chloe will be thrilled to hear that!

Judge -I'm so sorry to hear about your hen's problem! I'm thinking about you and hope things go well!

BigFam -You chicken vixen I believe you would put a Silkie Roo into my daughters arms! Silkies are smaller birds aren't they? Wouldn't he get stomped on by my big Delaware hen and then the other three in descending order???

Education is needed here: as a very green chicken owner and as one who has never owned a roo: do y'all eat the fertilized eggs too? I think you/we must because we've eaten TerriO's chicken eggs before and she's got about a million and three hens and roos hither and yon on her farm.
smile.png
Do the eggs need to be put in an incubator or under a dedicated momma in order for the embryos to start developing? How long before you must put fertilized eggs into an incubator in order to keep the embryos viable? Chicken sex education pop quiz is now over. Pencils down.
