Good wet windy morning all!

CC~so sorry for your Esmeralda.

I just try to think that better they go that way then to predators. But, who am I to talk? I am still running scenarios thru my head about "what if I had done this or was it really that and I missed it?" and Stirfry has been gone for weeks. I do at least still find solace in the fact she passed in her sleep, I hope you can too. You're a good chickie momma.

JJ~what a handsome young man!!! (and a great forehead too,

)

Got ambitious and decided to replace the plastic on the window on the east side of the coop with some heavier clear vinyl while the weather was still nice (not an easy task since both my coop windows are 6 feet off the ground to deter predators ) and since I had the vinyl out,of course, I might as well go ahead and cover the short fence between the coop and the gate, and, oh well, there's enough left on this roll so I might as well get the gate covered for winter too, and.................................. Think we all know how that scenario goes

Sadly, today we will probably consume the last of our homegrown tomatoes on some BLT's made with large slabs of Nueske's bacon. Fortunately we don't live too far from a hydroponic farm so we won't have to eat those nasty things they call tomatoes at Wally World.

Speaking of Nueske's bacon, have some applewood uncured sizzling in the pan right now to go along with eggs from the girls (before I dosed them with Wazine, don't worry) so I better go tend it.

GR yup long hours being a wagon dragger. Always wondered myself what they did with left over booze. I remembered they called them set ups in Mo. Such a strange concept can't buy a drink but you can make your own. Bible belt.

Vic don'tcha hate when you use the last of the fresh! The Pig here in town has the WORST veggies! Went down and did the Donny chores, took the Fiord and filled in a few holes in his driveway too. He called last night and the news was they were going to keep him longer than he thought but he called while I was there this morning and said he's coming home tomorrow!
ya.gif
Told him he had a few surprises when he gets home. He said ya what? Told him it's gonna be like finding Waldo. Got back and came in to have b'fast and saw a truck go by with wet spray behind it. Ran out and put the Fiord away guess I'm not making much wood today. Got a reminder yersterday why I haven't changed the lube in the Case trany and rear dif. 7 gallons

that's a hundred dollar bill. Going to do it after payday. Probably has never been changed. Real milky from water. But I did change it in the torque tube. Guess I better find something to do. Shouldn't take long.

Good Rainy morning all!
THANK YOU EVERYONE for the super nice well wished for Twain. He came home Sunday and felt great! Then right after he took his night meds he started getting a really intense pain in his back. Not the same place from his heart attack though. So, back we went to the ER. Where upon they gave him fluids, some pain meds, and did a CT scan. Turns out he passed a kidney stone. *sigh*. We got home at 2am. I'm still exhausted and it's Tuesday!
Now he is just fine and taking it a little easy more from the soreness in his leg from the cath site. He stopped smoking cold turkey and seems to be resigned to the fact that smoking is just not a thing he can do. He chews a lot of gun. He also is grumbling abut the diet but then so am I! LOL!

Other then that, everyone is well and the chickens are great. Tootsie is finally getting a little bit better. through the weekend she was still very sore and I figured she was going back to the vet to get a recheck but I think she won't need to do that. Thank goodness! I've had my fill of doctors...not that I don't love them but still.

CC-Sorry to hear about Esmerelda.

Well, get to get my butt in gear and go to the market.
Later gators!

CC- So sorry to hear about Esmerleda... hard when the favorites pass.
MLH- Glad that Twain is on the mend. Tell me if you have good tips on the diet changes... I have been borderline diabetic for most of my life and my dr has told me that I am officially diabetic so need to change a few more things. Not a soda drinker or sugary desert person besides an ice cream once in a while.. it is the starchy salty things I need to work on. Sigh ... I love fresh bread and hashbrown with a sunday breakfast...so i am working on that.
And alot of the veggies and fruit I love I have to limit... squash is very carb heavy.
life changes are fun... right???

Was hoping to get another roost up in the new coop this weekend but we all laid low with flu season fully in our household. Looks cold but clear to do these projects this coming weekend.
Oh and my excitement is that my Daisy Girl Scout has to sell GS cookies... ugh.. getting into high gear with that.
Rather be at home napping and snuggling my chickies! Wish the young ones would start laying. Would removing their rooster be cause to stop laying? I had two pullets that were hatched this spring that were laying and when we made some changes ( added a few birds and removed a few older birds and the roo that was harassing my kids) they stoped laying. And that was about 2 months ago. Not sure what is going on.
Plus I still have 5 birds that hatched in April( and one the beginig of May) that still are not laying. Little stinkers

Good morning folks! I am still chuckling from the funny posts this morning (and last evening too) JJ loved the 5 head comment. Still making me laugh...and your little guy is getting tall! Growing some teeth in his head too....they grow up so fast....the quail look good!
Sorry about your hen CC! The Aussies do seem to go like that unfortunately...my Blackface I have discovered has Canker. She has been following me around and I picked her up and she is like a bag of bones! I got a bunch out and doused her mouth with iodine...anybody know anything else to do?
David I sure wish one of your boys would have made a video...I can just see you heaving a stick at that bird! I am starting to laugh all over again! Good job getting her cornered and back where she belongs though!
Jim did the guy pick up the whole tractor? Just the motor? I am trying to picture it in my mind...I had to open my window next to my chair...it is very stuffy in this house and the cool breeze feels good. I think it is probably a good day to do some shopping...doesnt look like we will be riding--a bit wet for that! It seems like every Tuesday lately has been rainy. I dont hold out much hope for the rest of the week either. With the 70* temps forcasted my bulbs will probably start coming up...maybe I should plant a quick crop of greens? LOL!
THanks for the info about the 11% sale. I hope to get there and buy some good stuff...I am almost out of "value wood" that I use to build stuff with...I need to make some sort of covering over the quail pens for the winter. I am NOT bringing them into the house this year for sure! It seems that I had something else to say...cant remember it though.
The turkey soup was delish last night...tonight I think I am making a stir fry with the last of the chard, peppers and tomatoes. Either that or Spanish rice and pork chops...with brussels on the side! MMMMM!

Oh--something exciting! My friend just called and a guy went into her neighbors' house yesterday and poured gas all over and exploded the house! I though I had heard something explode in that direction yesterday while I was doing chores but there was thunder too so I wasnt sure...then I heard all the fire sirens going off. So I just talked to her and she said it is like CSI right next door! They are taking shovelfuls of dirt out and bagging it up etc. The sheriff was guarding the house all night and she is kind of freaked out because her DH saw the guy going in with the gasoline. It is weird cause the perp showed up right after my friend and her brother(visiting from England) left in their car. I guess somebody will be going to jail for arson.

Geez--now it is getting darker and thundering! Guess I oughta get off here and batten down the hatches once again! Have a great day! TerriOwithwimpydogscrawlingintoherlap

I am diabetic also-

I went to a class at my local hospital where we spent 2 days(about 2 weeks apart) learning about the causes like insufficient insulin or insulin resistant cells, what the drugs prescribed do and how to eat in a way to keep your blood sugar levels flat instead of up and down. It turns out that you can have all the foods you mentioned, just not as much or all in the same meal. Take heart, and ask your doctor about any such classes in your area. My insurance covered the classes for me but only once lifetime, which is a reason to really pay attention in class. Post here for support. I will gladly offer help or advise from a fellow finger lancer.

also and less importantly-

my chickens have been mostly on strike for a couple months too. I even bought a layer from TerriO and she layed for a week and a half and I guess my girls taught her what being in the layers union is all about and she stopped too.

Thanks JJ... The starches are hard to cut back on for me. but I am working on small snacks of them only. I have always been a veggie eater and enjoy fruit for a snack. Just need to watch my fruit intake more. I am taking the classes in November. my probelm is peer pressure. Hubby could use to follow the same diet, but chooses not to and the kids say if Daddy eats X, why cant I... so I am making seperate dishes for myself than the rest of the family. Thanks for the support. I came from a good german eating family, so have been trying to adapt receipes so not so heavy and starchy. I am not giving up meat so we wont even go there.

Who taught these girls about striking is what I need to know!

I know... what has been my go to snack all summer ( and hate to say I have a small bag with me at work) is sugar snap peas... cant give those up.
Working on my winter squash for chickens rather than me. Very high in carbs. If you have any great receipes.. feel free to message me. Can always use a few new good ones!
