Terri,

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/644300/fermenting-feed-for-meat-birds

this is now a long and typical BYC thread,,,basic info is in the first few pages, if you skip to the last few there are a couple recipes posted

the main thing is get some ACV with "the mother" to get the 1st batch working

a couple more links

http://459507378526106724.weebly.com/feed-sources-and-storage.html

This is the link below that explains the science and caught my interest initially:

now my disclaimer,,,remember I have seen good results to this point but my birds are still free ranging, after the ground is white things might be different,,lol

Well it was a pretty good egg day...used to have different standards, but 4 eggs out of 13 laying...is the best in a long time.

Oh and carol is a round again for those that were worried. She left her phone at a friends out of town and was not on fb as much...so we lost her for a week.

Hope everyone is staying warm...chilly out there

I agree just came in from head count and lock up, everyone is there that should be..........TG
Them little pullets are sneeky little things I have been down to 8 or 9 eggs last 2 days and was wondering where they stashed them, well of all the places in my hay is there favorite so that is where I started looking and found 15 eggs.......little farts, but of my 29 girls, several are still molting, but I have 12 new pullets that all should be laying now, and I recognize a couple eggs from my big girls, but not as many as I would like to see........ but if they take a break I really don't care, I have more than I can use anyway.......... but here is a picture of my beautiful egg basket tonight with my stashed eggs and the ones layed in the nests, total of 28 eggs, but several would be from yesterday and maybe the day b4......

BRB have to get the boys there supper..........
Ok I'm back again....... anyway Spent a bunch of time with the chickens and puppies today, so I feel a bit less stressed, still praying everything goes well Monday at Kohel, Adam declined there rank offer TerriO, working a straight truck for 10 bucks an hour, will not even pay back his tuition, so at least he won't have to put up with an A hole and a witch........as bosses.
Jayme is not at all happy with there crap and plans to talk to the real boss, but I told him don't waste his breath, its been going on this long doubt it change now, we found a post a week or so ago about the bullcrap going on there on Craigs list, it was worded like don';t waste your time with company you will get nowhere, and they will rip you off...... it was pulled a couple times but reposted shortly after so Adam is not the only one whose had enough of the crap at Straight shots.......Everyone send up prayer that even though its late in the season Kohel gives him a job. we really really need it.........
So Jim any news on Ollie? and how are the chickies, I really want to come pickup and get the ones from David, even if we don;t butcher just now, I want them integrated b4 it gets too darn cold....... I don't wanna have 3 or 4 chickens alone in a cage when the wind starts whipping and it drops down to zero at night. What are you guys doing tomorrow? maybe we could come up for a visit if you all aren't busy.........let me know
So for now guess we gonna watch a old movie..later all.........Kim.

Evening All.. A belated Birthday wish to ya ghost. I missed that in the thread before.

Forgot to mention that I also have a brinsea Octagon 20 advance.

Played in the leaves and did some garden clean-up today. I'm anxious to get that new saw back in my hand soon. I have enough to keep me plenty busy wood makin wise...just need to get some of this other stuff under control somewhat first.

Pork roast tonight with baked spuds and fresh buttercup squash and a couple pieces of garlic bread. Suzie made a fresh squash pie with punkin pie seasoning for my daughter angie...and I'm like where's my pie? Guess I shoulda used a bigger squash she said....DUH.... I should steal a piece to make a point , eh! Angie will wonder who ate a piece of her pie...

Yes, supposedly if there's a spot on their head is male. If there's chipmunk stripes and "eye liner" it's a female.

The only lemon cuckoo pipped at the wrong end and drown.

The ameracauna that pipped at the wrong end made it. But first I helped pick off some shell. Then I pulled on membrane and made it bleed. I put it back in the Bator, and let it sit overnight. It ended up getting shrink wrapped partially. So I took more shell off, and made the membrane bleed again. Wrapped it in paper towels and made sure there was a moist paper towel on the dried membrane. It moistened it enough to unglue baby and it then finally hatched on its own. Success!

Night all!

Just can't keep your mitts off them eggs, can ya?

Where is Jim anyway?

Hi All!

Happy Late Birthday GR... mine sucked too

Oh well, guess we're at the age we have to remind people we survived another year.

Nice eggs basket!

Bigfam.... I would think honey would be too sticky too. It would pick up everything within an inch of it! I used Vaseline with a few drops of tea tree oil when mine had them. It worked well. I do like the idea of the bag/utter balm. It would still smother them and it's medicated so it would heal too. GR is right about marigolds, good insecticide.

Well, I went to bury the kitten (no time Fri) and on the way back to the house I passed by the corner of the garden and spotted a big pile of black feathers! *Panic!!* My son said he saw a hawk near a few hours before! So I went and checked every group of birds in the yard and coop! All the black ones were accounted for and all the roos (look like roo feathers) were accounted for except for Ozzy! Went back in the coop and there he was... almost tail less!
lau.gif
Looked him over and he was fine but a lot of pink showed through what feathers were left. Poor guy. I think the other roos took him down a peg or 2.
tongue.png
Not a bad thing... He is the largest roo I have (an Australorp/Gold Comet cross I'm keeping for egg producers) and he's been a bit too "cocky" ..... I don't want him to be head roo because he is so big and can be a bit rough on the girls. Well, the tail plucking fixed that! LOL

The kittens are doing good... a couple are starting to test "real food". Little Moe even had a tiny piece of chicken tonight! He already decided he likes cheese. I think once they start eating more they will grow quick.

Here's something to think about for you hunters......

Here's something if Adam ever gets his own truck...

Night ALL!

good morning, Cind, I literally did LOL about no animal was harmed.. I wonder how many more people like that are out there ??

I spent all day outside yesterday.. didn't even take a nap break..

I am doing something I know about,,, building.... a dog house for Dora.. I doubt if she will use it, but I am making it large enough to double as a brooder or breeding pen.. the floor is 4 ft x 4 ft..
I am building it on my big trailer,, and a good thing I am.. It is getting heavier by the minute.. I got the floor and 3 walls up.. today I should get the last wall up and the ceiling in.. then I have to make another trip to Menard's to pick up some corigated roof panels.. this all has to be done before the Packer game..

No butchering today, Kim.. there will be some warmer days before Dec to butcher.. After Halloween, the threat of rain will diminish also.. Let's shoot for next weekend.. You have only about a dozen or so to do, right? Not a big deal.. I might have a couple extra by then, too..
It doesn't pay to run all this way just to pick up a couple of chickens.. bring your roos along ..
I have all the tools necessary for the job, too.. maybe we can do it in such a way that no creatures are harmed in the process, like the grocery stores do it.. I am laughing again.. that really hit my funny bone..

I am really proud of myself.. I went to bed before midnight and managed to sleep beyond 3 AM. I made it to 4:30 AM..

I had my first cuppa already.. think I will go up and see if there are any do-nuts left..

...jimnotreallyhungrybutwhocannotpassupadoublechocolatedonut..........
