She asked what was going on. I looked around and didn't see anything until I looked up. Bald eagle way up there. Jim sounds like you'll be putting some pipe under that dog house to roll it off.

Was asleep at 8:30 and didn't get up till 5:30. Tired boy. Dan copied the FF to favorites and will read it someday. Thanks for the link! Bf4me glad there wasn't much damage to the chick. Keep your fingers off!

Hard thing to do huh? 24 when I got up 21 now. Was tired when I went to bed and just threw some wood in the stove, the fire was just about out, it didn't catch. A little nippley in here this AM. Java's kickin in gotta move! Go Pack!!!!!!

It's ok about the birthday guys I don't celebrate them anymore anyway, I was just upset that my son didn't remember, ya would think after 47 years he would remember it comes every Oct. 26th........ Kids

Jim next weekend I hope will work, and I hope it warms up some, boy is she chilly here this am 25 over night my hose is frozen, all the waters are frozen, had to fill jugs of warm water to thaw everything that was out............ guess I better break out the heated water bowls, and drop the tank heater in my horse trough..........Brrrrr.......... Yah I only have 12 roos to butcher, and the youngest could use more time, because they were my last hatch June 26th, but I doubt all the feed in the world will add much now with this cold weather settin in, so those 6 are gonna probably be pretty scrawny......... will see. The others are 22 weeks or over, 2 are 30 weeks. but they are EE's so not huge like the BR/Del crosses.... I like this cross the girls are good layers, nice dark egg almost like the Dels, and aw sum size for butchering, I think even bigger than the Dels. at least they appear to be............ could be wrong, lots of feathers too see through.........
Dora's new house sounds like a big one, we built one like that 8 years ago for Gidget, same size 4x4 2 feet high at the front and 32 at the back sloped shingled roof........it took 4 people to lift the thing to move it......... so best make the spot easy to get into, LOL they get heavy quick.......

Cind glad the hawk didn't get your rooster, bag balm might work as you stated.......but BigF must have marigolds planted somewhere at her place, wouldn't ya think? tho if they are still alive that's another story. Tea tree is also very good and antiseptic.

Ok now I have a question, this crappo place Straightshots, is gonna screw up Adams unemployment, but we are not even sure if they are gonna pay him for those 3 lousy days, so not sure how to report this, anyone every have to deal with this kinda thing b4, and if he does get paid, I'm quite sure it isn';t gonna be what they said, and it won't be until Nov. 9th if anything, I'm also thinking they are gonna make him pay for the piss test they had done............ so what should we do? anyone know? this is the first time I ever had to deal with this kinda thing and the first time in my life I had to deal with unemployment, same for Adam, he has always worked until last Sept. and has never come across such a screwed up situation. ......Help...........
so anyway gonna go warm up my fingers are still frozen from doing chores..........need more cuppa's..........Kim

A VERY CRISPY MORNING ALL!!!

It has just WARMED UP to 15o!!!!! It was 14o when I got up. Boy, am I glad I turned the heater on in the coop last night. It keeps it a bit warmer in there then I would like (it's 48o up near the ceiling right now but at lest it's more like 42o on the floor) but it's a safe oil-filled heater and not nearly as risky as a brooder lamp. It has all kinds of wattage/temp combination settings but the lowest is a "snowflake" setting designed to just keep a space warm enough to keep pipes, etc. (or my chookies) from freezing. Guess it probably wouldn't hold as warm if my coop wasn't so well insulated, but I hadn't figured on needing to run it in October either!

Unkadan~ I use Nu-stock and love it! It really stinks because of the pine tar, but that is actually a good thing because then they leave it alone. It really helped my Crockpot start to grow feathers back on her bare butt. Only problem I hit was if you put it on too thick or re-apply over itself, it can dry to a "crust" you need to soak off. I think I just used too much of a good thing the first time. Not had that problem since however. I also think it broke Soup of plucking out her sister's feathers because she seems to have totally lost interest after I started using the Nu-stock which means she saved herself from wearing Peepers

Cindlady~agree with you on the "at least I survived another year" thing. GR~ I am..............,yeah, about that old, (hehehe) and still waiting for my very first birthday cake!!! EVER! (yep, even the t one that came right after I got dxd w/leukemia

) My DH wouldn't remember at all if he didn't make sure I marked it on the calendar every year and even then he's missed it! He is otherwise a wonderful, thoughtful hubby, but holidays? Forget about it!!! LITERALLY!

BUT~ there is an upside. This is how I am getting a new Kindle Fire 8.9 HD for Christmas because he is so "uninspired" he finally developed the strategy of just nagging til I tell him what I would like then he hands me the checkcard tells me to order it and when it arrives to act surprised!!!

Occasionally he even insists it be wrapped and not opened ahead of time but if I get to the UPS truck first (my Kindle has been pre-ordered because that version won't be ready to ship until Thanksgiving) it's mine mine MINE!!!!

Oh, and I can outrun him!

We just got to love em for who they are and remember they, after all, are MEN, (even the sons) sigh.

About the newspaper clipping~ Think about this...........It is possible that could be a "she" and "she" could be a mother!!!! (how's that for a Holloween scare?)

BTW~ about the honey on leg mites. I can just see it!! Different colored molted feathers stuck all over that poor chooks legs!!! It will look like a Holloween costume!!

Yes, I agree with the bag balm. Always have it on hand. Couldn't get thru winter without it, for both critters and humans. It should work great on leg mites, especially in the cold weather.

Morning all!
Just got the critters all all cared for and they are feeling very frisky this morning! Getting near that time to plug in the heated water dish for the hens. I think once the meaties go and I clean out the area that they are in, I'll move Buzzy around to give he the heat lamp and I think I'll get her a heated dish too. I also need to get my heat lamp back up for her! My heat lamp finally gave up the ghost!

Cind - that clipping is hilarious! Too bad I know some one who won't eat meat or eggs not bought from the market. Sometimes people just amaze me although I don't know why!

Morning all! Gotta run but just wanted to check in...sent you a PM Kim. Lotsa reading today so I am out of time of course! I am going to Milw to pick up a guinea from Chicago...I am down to 4 from last year and 1 from this year...darn Owls!
So I am going out to pop open the doors and head out. I am sure the hose is frozen so I will water when I get back. Not as cold here...30 on the porch. A heat wave compared to some of you for sure!
Dan--thanks for those links...the science of the whole thing is what i wanted. I will pick up some of the vinegar today I guess...and I have to stop at a pet store to get Fishzole...F&F didnt have it.

What is it with these dang cats? Every time I sit on the bed with the laptop I have one climb into my lap, or they plop right in front of the keyboard so I have to sit hunched to type. I would move them but they are keeping my toes warm.....

It is pretty dang cold here.... just 32* at 9:30. Glad the girls gave the dogs their baths yesterday....... they smell so nice!!!!

Speaking of soap, BigZ, you wanted a full batch of the stuff with the cinnamon swirl in it? Vanilla scented stuff or just the spices? I am placing my order TODAY for more supplies... I want to get some cardamon EO so I can get my Chai soap smelling just right!
