Good Evening everyone............
Well a good day today got my chick hut moved to the garage so I can separate my still molting SS, Sissy, Bridget Del from Jim and peppers, away from these boys I'm so fed up with the rooster antics around here I'm half tempted to butcher them all............. arggggggg
They call the girls to eat then rapew them........... ggrrrrrrrrr I chase them off when I see it but I ain't out there 24/7 poor girls.......
H&R glad your Dad is home hope he makes a quick recovery.....
TerriO sorry about the chickens wish there was something I could do......
FT I hope you get to adopt the horse, I would take him, but with hay so high this year, I will have enough hungry mouths to feed.........Hope next year the price goes back down, they are now caught up around here seen small bales on Craigs list 7 bucks a bale.I pay 2 but if they run out before next 1st crop, ya all will hear me screaming all the way to the barn.............
Yes Jim we are coming up Saturday and butchering these boys b4 they drive me crazy, Have to decide NOW who is staying and who is going..........because I ain't keeping more than 2 rooster.............. My Big Del Boy Hansom will stay...... but as far as the others even my GrayBeards head could end up on the chopping block.....He has been ticking me off the last week.all of a sudden he don't wanna be picked up to be checked over or moved out of my way....... he has decided biting me is ok instead.................. NOT and if he don't quit it I will keep one of his beautiful sons instead.......... for my new EE girls....... he isn't that great of a rooster that I would put up with his crap... just because he's pretty and makes some cute babies, all the roosters can do that as well........and he will be 2 next year and too tough to eat anymore anyway,......We wuill try to leave out a here real early load up the chickens and head out I won't bring the boys, to bother the new pup..... or momma, It will most likely be for the day anyway, unless something gets us behind.......I have 12 to butcher maybe 13....... how many do you have to get done or did ya sell them all?..........
Thanks for the well wished for SnowFlake, how she's alive is beyond me and today she is using that leg rather well, not alot yet she sleeps a great deal...... but she is walking on her own, a little stiffly, so she is still pretty sore, But I think she is gonna make it......... I gave her more scrambled eggs with garlic and Vitamin E and D, plus she gets the Vita saver for chicks in her water. stinky yellow stuff, but she drinks it....
I still can't believe she lived through that many days in the cold, no food no water, she must have had a good store of fat to see her through, she does appear now to have a touch of frost bite on the bad foot, must have been under her against the cold concrete, its a small patch and I will keep and eye on it just to make sure it don"t get infected.......but so far so good......
speaking of that TerriOI need pointers for a house chicken long term......... this one is gonna need months of recovery time, and by then it will be 50 below........ so I think she is gonna keep me company this long cold winter..... where can I buy chicken diapers.............I have never had one inside long term except hobbles and he was in my basement in a big cage, because he was my invalid loner rooster.......
BigF sorry you lost a young pullet, at least it was quick and she didn't suffer............ it really sucks for that to happen in a brand new pullet, I'm surprised so far so good with my girls a couple had streaked blood on the eggs and my Lacy's first egg was huge a double yolker don't know how she managed it....but everyone is laying well and no problems so far.
So anyway I guess I should get some other threads read for a change I'm way behind.......... LOL nursing a chicken working to get fall chores done, I have alot to read.......... later all have a great night.........Kim
