Well then run around the block a few times, or take the kids out for a late-night snack...those quail are never gonna hatch if you're watching them, that's the laws of nature.....or something like that! I know mine never do until when I'm sleeping
The first one hatched at 10PM, will he be ok in the bator till I get up at 8 AM? He seemed to have it rough compaired to the 2nd chick, so I left him in to sort himself out.
Yeah, they can stay in there for up to 24 hours, probably longer. I always take babies out in the morning, probably since I always set eggs at night, so they always hatch when I'm sleeping! But it should be fine
And if not
moving it now wouldn't do it any good anyway. Just wait till morning. So you're going to bed then? I need to, but I was playing rescue with a chick that got knocked out of the rafters, and there was a darned wasp nest on the step ladder I was trying to open. Darn things stung my fingers pretty good, so I'm not really sleepy now....
Actually.... I'm trying to decide what to hatch next
I'm allowed 2 more hens under town rules, so I'm thinking I should hatch them. I have pure breed Barred rock eggs, (the RIR isn't laying yet) but I'm kinda thinking some pretty colored eggs or....?
I was thinking along those lines. If I set them now, they'd hatch in Aug and I'd not need a heat lamp (I didn't need one in Feb either)
My current roo is illegial (I ordered all pullets, and got 50/50). So I should rehome him BUT there's 3 roosters within 2 streets, so I'm thinking no one cares.
The shed in the back yard was a coop origionally, the boards for the perches are still there, along with a faucet, light socket, and most telling, there's a "sand pit" where the yard would be (and a boxwood hedge).
I get a call last night from an excited Saddi, and of course I know it's baby time hahaha. For some reason the 'bator wanted to do it's first temp spike just when the chick's were a hatching.
She sounded so excited!!!! So of course we talked for a bit till she started getting all excited about an egg she had removed to check the others... it was hatching right in her hand
Needless to say she sounded so excited!!!! Michigan to California time differences being what they are........ well I was about to fall over dead facedown and sleep; and by the looks of the messages she was just starting to get going!!!!!!!
Saddi, hope everything has hatched out good for you
I want to see more pics today, cuz a little birdie told me it was your day off!
