Wonderful Wells Fargo

I'm not sure how - my hubby direct deposits his paycheck through them and then for anything we get like cash, checks etc. We have a credit union account that he just puts random money into.

Ours was always direct deposit. It's my understanding that you can scan checks electronically to deposit them. I don't know of any way to make a cash deposit.

Maintenance fee? What a good way to disguise a " just because i feel like it" fee. now, in what way do they exactly maintain the accounts? do they dust them, clean them, oil them or something that a $10 fee is required

You have to have a pretty modern computer, some operating systems ( I don't know off hand which) won't accommodate the software. Basically they walk you through it when you click on deposit at home, then you scan the check on your printer (easy to use instructions as you go) and they only hold for a few days if your average daily balance is less than the check. I have only had that happen once in the few years we have been using it.

*ETA the easiest way I have found to deposit cash is have a local savings account and transfer it for a fee to your USAA checking acct. Obviously you would not use this for small amounts but it has never really been an issue for me.

Have I mentioned I LOVE USAA!

Computer is modern, but no printer/scanner. Ah well.

20 bucks on a scanner/printer would be worth it in my book

No oil, but they are servicing a customer that expects the doors to be open with paid employees in place, expects their transactions to be processed in a timely manner, expects online services, ATM access, etc. That all comes at a cost. They make money by lending your money. If you maintain less than, let's say a $500 balance, how much money do expect them to make on $500? Let's say that they can make 10% (highly unlikely), that's less than $50 a year for your portion of all of the services that they provide to you. Yet, some complain and feel that everything should be free with no fees.

A $7 or $10 a month fee is not that unreasonable. What other services do you get for that kind of money?

I did not realise closing banking accounts would affect your credit rating. I never saw it on my credit report. I would do it anyway! I froze all my credit reports this year. Dh always has to do a deposit or something to avoid inactive fees on some bank accounts. I don't see the need for 3+ accounts. Aside from the inactive fees I do not recall anything esle.

I know one local bank started charging fees for taking coin deposits.

Everyone I know that banks with Wells Fargo is ready to can them. Ive heard more complaints about Wells Fargo than I have out of any other bank.
(one teller tried to get me to open an account "because we have horses as our logo"

If they dont quit ticking everyone off they are going to be in big trouble soon
