Wood Stoves?

We have a pellet furnace and we love it. We have a 700 sq. ft. house that is well-insulated so when we turn it on at night, it gets up to 80 degrees by morning and only uses maybe 1/2 bag.

Glad to hear that, because we are going to heat our whole house with it. We currently have a coal furnace, but it is so messy we are replacing it with pellets. Now if only it would get here and DH would hook it up, then we wouldn't have to use the electric heat at all.

i so miss my wood stove.. we heated our home with wood for 34 yrs .. now that we are heading towards 60 it is too much for hubby and i to bring in.. we used a huge dump truck full every yr.. but never had to heat with anything else.. cost about 500 a yr.. well since we built our new home we decided to use pellets.. i am so disappointed.. no heat in the surrounding frame to stand next to.. only heat comes from a blower in the front.. no roasting marsmallows or cooking on the stove top.. pellet stoves bite the big one. i miss the smell of the wood smoke .. waaaaa makes me want to cry..

We just started this week using our buckstove. Down in the low 50s here during most of the week! We keep enough cords on hand to last ahead 3 years. Usually buy a log truck load every other year to cut up. Always a hard wood, soft burns too quickly.

We have a natural gas furnace but it really saves atleast 3/4ths of the gas bill in the Fall and Winter to use the buckstove. Furnace only kicks on at night unless bitter cold and then it's only set at 60.

We have a pellet stove. DH is going to clean the chimney this weekend. Then it's ready to go when we need it.

We live in NC and haven't had to use ours in about 3 years. Need to get some wood for it in case this is a bad winter. That thing really came in handy one year when we had a bad ice storm and lost power for a couple of days... I can cook on top of mine!

we have 1 in our bedroom that we use to heat all 3 bedrooms...they're in a straight line with doors inbetween (weird, I know)

but the living room, dining room and kitchen are not heated and get kinda chilly. but we can't afford the propane to use our heater unless we save all year for it.
we try to use a space heater in the living room when it get really chilly during the day and then just keep the bedroom door closed all say to hold the heat back there.

I have no clue how much wood we use, but it's a lot. we also have a supply of heart pine that is great for getting fire started and keeping it HOT!!!!

We use about 11 cords of wood a year. That's for two stoves. I know for sure because I measured it and calculated how much we went thru one year. We use more than I even thought we did!
