WORMS HELP!!!!!

CAN MY KIDS GET PINWORMS FROM MY CHICKENS??? No vet has the answer nor do they test for pin woms in chickens. My kids have a reocurring pinworm infection and I am wondering if it is from them collecting their eggs! Do I get rid of them (chickens, not kids :) )?!?!

your vet wouldn't be able to answer this since pinworms are considered a human parasite and are not seen in animals. I think you are probably not getting rid of the infection in your kids completely. You may be treating enough to reduce most signs and symptoms of them but over time they build back up again. Either that or their environment (bedding and mattress) need to be more thoroughly cleaned.

Either way, it's not the chickens or any other pets you have. They are so contagious and can be contracted by touching a desk top or pencil from an infected classmate.

Not trying to hijack this thread. But someone mentioned following up after an initial worm treatment in 10 days. My birds had a round worm infestation. I used garlic and cider vinegar. Then I used wazine and de in the enclosure. It has been over 10 days. Should I follow up again with the wazine? Tia!

If you're using valbazen, redose in 10 days. The garlic, ACV, DE are useless for a worm infestation, all misinformation. If you dont have valbazen, use Safeguard liquid goat wormer, 1/2cc orally undiluted for 3 days straight before feeding them in the mornings.

Thats a roundworm, And just think, That worm has already layed thousands of eggs each day that is passed through the droppings and embryonated in the litter( eggs are only infective once they have embroynated outside of the host bird)
There the eggs are consumed by other chickens/ picked up by wild birds/animals and by other mechanical means and took to other farms nearby.
wazine 17 will kill round worms, wazine is only effective against roundworms.. I always use a broad spectrum wormer, often times a bird has more than one species present and the harshness of all chemical wormers are about the same. I rotate between these three valbazen(albendazole) safeguard(fenbendazole) and levamisole..And no the worms from the chickens wont infect the puppies..Whats the active ingredient in the puppy wormer?

\ Uck! What a visual picture that made. Pine Grove (Whoops I mistyped and wrote Pine Grave, sorry) in your opinion, how young is too young to worm? Reason being, I have a nearly three month old white cochin chick who is the only survivor out of its litter (Coccidiosis) That was over a month ago. Now chick in question (Cotton) has diareah, diarreah, oh come on , i cant spell it right, but anyway has the runny poos, and that is the on ly symptom. still active and good appetite. Then I realized I didn't worm last year, at all. The cotton is still eating medicated baby food with the other babies. but he gets big guy food too and the wormer I have mixes in with 50 lbs of dry food. Poor cotton has already been through so much that I don't know if his system can handle worms too! His dad was predated this spring and cotton is the only baby i have left from him. Thank you in advance for advice.

Hello, I recently found what I believe to be a thread worm. I think it was on the bottom of my shoe and I walked in my kitchen and it ended up on my floor. I have looked at my chickens dropping and found no worms in there poop however my question is if there in my soil(I have a vegie garden) will my chickens end up getting them? how do I treat for worms where do I buy treatment for my chickens? I live in st Louis Missouri. I have 9 chickens 1 being a rooster.

If you could gather some fresh droppings from your hens in a container, and take them to a vet that you have already contacted about a fecal float for parasites, you may save some guesswork. Capillaria worms can be treated with Valbazen 1/2 ml once by mouth, and repeated in 10 days. Safeguard liquid goat wormer or equine paste can be given 1/4 ml per pound of weight for 5 days in a row orally to each chicken.
