Worms!

I agree with @EggSighted4Life and @BirdsBeesTrees, they are maggots. Do your best to keep their brooder dry and they shouldn't be a problem. Me, I clean the brooder at least once a day and that seems to help a lot!

X2 It sounds like maggots under the water station. Could be from a bit of spilled feed, poop and dampness.
I would clean out the brooder - replace all the shavings with dry.

Water stations sweat and water gets spilled, so keep a watch on that area. This last time I had chicks I put a plastic tray covered with a small puppy pad under the waterer, any spills the pad caught and it was an easy clean up. Bedding stayed dry too.

How much garlic powder should I put in chick water?
We just sprinkle it on their food. ;) Chickens eat it, flies stay out of the feed. When the chickens poop it out the flies avoid the poop. It's not 100% but anything to irritate the flies that love to irritate us! :D

Just saw your post about them being in the house. This is what I did in my brooders: I put a thick layer of large pine shavings in the bottom, then I sprinkled poultry dust all over them. Last of all I put puppy pads on top of the shavings. It really cut down on the fly maggot problem. :)
