Worried about BYC! Anyone feel the same?

Maybe I missed something but I'm really confused. Why would anyone want to get rid of the games, jokes, and fun section? I mean, what is wrong with having it there? Just don't go to it if you don't like it!

That's exactly why I'm confused... MKK posts on the G, J & F section all the time, probably more than he helps with chicken info, and here he's saying people shouldn't participate in it? It simply just doesn't make sense...

I'll start this post off by saying, I am guilty of frequenting the social section, but I find it all-too-true that without the social forums, BYC likely wouldn't be the huge community that it is now. The chicken knowledge that the other members here are gracious enough to share is invaluable, and the laugh-out-loud worthy pictures and/or tales that can be found here are indeed appreciated, but if that was all to be found on this site, things would eventually get quite boring. I think Nifty added the social sections just for this reason: because he knew that it was what the forum was missing!

I like to look at the new posts that come up, and sometimes participate in the games (very occasionally).

The role playing doesn't really interest me at this moment (dare I say it probably never will?) since my whole family loves RP and I feel that I have to listen to it around the dinner table way too much LOL.

Mostly I enjoy focusing on chickens but will occasionally peek into Random Ramblings...it's fun. I enjoy seeing what everybody's doing with their lives and yards and chickens!

I especially enjoy the gardening posts. I love that I don't have to search all over the internet to read about a variety of things.

MKK Farms, go where you want to on BYC! Enjoy it and don't feel bad about visiting games jokes and fun!

I do not detest the games section. Quite the opposite. I think its great that there are so many interesting categories on BYC. This keeps the site interesting and diverse. That being said, I do get annoyed, as a new chicken owner, that I have to constantly refresh my browser to see new chicken related posts. Sure I could browse by category and avoid all that but then again I don't know enough about chickens yet to know which categories are relevant to me and which aren't.

Mitch, if you are taking me seriously, you are sillier than I am, and that's pretty silly!

I've been a member here for getting on toward 4 years now. There have always been lots of chat and game threads here, and they are generally the most active. I've never really had much use for the "new posts" button anyway, because even without all the games, who's to say that just because someone recently posted on a thread, they had anything useful or even relevant to say? Activity doesn't necessarily denote the imparting of knowledge.

There are many reasons that people come to this forum, the social aspect being one. A couple of people who have been "high count" posters in the past, have become mods in the last few months. No stones being cast here!

Everyone I have encountered on here has been great, a little cliquey at times but still friendly and helpful. Wanting to learn as much as I can before I get my chickens next month, I does get a little annoying (especially at night when I mainly use the computer) that is is mainly game stuff popping up in "recent activity" feed. I have nothing against games at all, for those that play them that is awesome

but I would like to know all that I can and be an informed chicken owner - I had no idea about problems chickens can encounter before coming to this site so it has been very helpful. As I have no idea what to look for, I like to see what pops up on the news feed if someone does have a problem and see what others say to help.

Is there a way that you can customize totally what pops up on the recent activity feed - like I said I am new here and don't really have a clue if that is even an option.
