Worried about Jax! Please keep your fingers crossed!

I agree with Chicktwit..mineral oil..I have had to use it on my AmBulldogs..several times, they are very lg dogs, have to give it two times usually to get it moving. It was over a tennis ball, front door mat, my dh high school leather football. (This was on the advise of my vet but you may want to check with yours first)..perforated bowels and becoming impacted are two problems.

I would really bulk him up if/when he feels like eating. Canned pumpkin, french green beans steamed in the microwave, whole wheat bread, even the double fiber kind would be good.

This will form a good bulky stool that moves quickly through the system, and will probably take care of it.

I know someone whose dog punctured and consumed an ENTIRE basketball. That required surgery.

I would think a small piece of a rubbery basketball would be somewhat analogous to cartilage...something a dog's digestive system should be more than equipped to handle. Plus, it's likely that the missing portion didn't go down in one piece, but rather in many smaller, chewed-up pieces.

Personally, I don't worry too much unless one of our dogs has eaten something that can get linear in their GI.. Like, string or cord or something.. That's the stuff that twists and binds and cuts through the gut.

A chunk of basketball?...nah, I think the pooch will be just fine. Just my $.02.

If my Barred Rock is able to live through eating TWO cigarette butts while only 12 weeks old, I think Jax will be fine with a little bit of basketball

If it's a small piece, I wouldn't worry too much. Especially if it was a leather ball!

Always better safe than sorry.

I wouldn't think it would cause a big problem. Our malamute ate/ingested 2 large leather collars, 3 nylon collars and a 6ft nylon leash. All passed without trouble. Now he has a chain collar and can't eat it,but he does know how to take it off though. He has to be tied because he will harass the goats and he doesn't like chickens. Its DH's dog, what can I say.

Well the vet said that this too shall pass and that if he doesn't have a movement tonight, to give mineral oil.
We're on poop patrol.
