I just went into the kitchen to grab some dinner and I came back and my baby had a cut in her beak, I was googling and then panicking, what should I do? I tried putting peroxide on it but the blood is already dried so it’s not doing much I’m just scared, she’s not in any pain and it’s no longer bleeding. She also has green and I can’t find anything on that, she’s a cross of a Pekin and an Ancona, she’s about 3 weeks I thought she was older but I looked at the dates and times going slow lately.

I saw the suggestion for peroxide daily and I wanted to say that peroxide should NEVER be used daily for wounds. It should only be used for the first initial wound cleaning. Peroxide actually kills healthy cells and using it daily can cause further damage.
I only put it on as soon as I saw it and I put neosborn on right after, I don’t plan on using it again, thank you!!

My duck cracked her beak once, it bled a bit, even got on her feathers!
But by the time I noticed, it was mostly dried. So I just cleaned it gently with a bit of vetercyn and put a dab of triple antibiotic ointment (without pain relief) on it. I kept her water as clean as possible, and put anibitoic ointment on the crack each day.
It was completely healed within a week, wouldn't know it ever happened!

Your baby will heal just fine, just keep their waterer fresh as possible, and if you can put a little triple antibiotic without pain relief on occasionally.
This doesn't make you a bad duck parent! These little monkeys are incredibly good at getting themselves into trouble. Do you know how it happened?
You may want to check the brooder/pen for any hazards
I’m currently in the process of moving back home for the summer as I’m in college. In doing so she is temporarily in a 2 x 4 foot bucket I’m afraid this morning when I went to grab her out of the bucket she caught her beak on the outer lip of the lid and cut it. I put neosborn on it and cleaned out every nook and cranny in her pen just to double check and prevent infections. I feel absolutely terrible and have been giving her cuddles all day long!

Aww
I know you feel bad but you shouldn't! Accidents happen. Its clear you love her very much

Does she have a friend or is she a lone duckling?
Sadly she’s alone, she had a buddy but he passed away about a week ago. We couldn’t find out why he passed away we just woke up and he wasn’t with us anymore. She has already bonded well with me and my dogs but if she gets lonely we will get her another buddy.

I'm sorry for your loss :hugs
I'd definitely reccomend finding her a ducky friend sometime soon. It's great that she has you, but unless you can be there every hour, she'll eventually become lonely. Ducks very much appreciate having a friend to quack, swim with and bug hunt with, things we can't really do with them!

My other is a female thankfully, my dads mad enough as it is I’m bringing another home haha
I live in a small town so we don’t have any duck places near me but I will get her a friend as soon as I can, I will keep her separated from the rest for a while though, would she do ok with chicks?
I'm not sure about chicks, I imagine they'd need to be close in size and introduced slowly. But I'm not certain on this as I haven't raised chicks.
@Canadian Wind

Chickens can be mean with a newbie. Those beaks are hard and sharp, it's best to introduce your duckling slowly to your adult duck and the chickens. With always supervision. When I have young ducklings or chicks they get to spend time with the other birds but they start out inside a dog x pen so they can all see each other but no one gets picked on. Then I will sit down with them all and let the youngins run around and usually the adult birds keep their distance but I never leave them alone together.

This is how we learn. I tell ya it's so nice to have BYC to come to for questions to be answered. When I started out with ducks back in 2004 I didn't even have a computer. I went to the library for info. Then in 2009 I got my first computer and found BYC, Gosh has this been blessing? We all have experience in many different things, i cannot imagine raising cattle I love them but it's intimidating. So see we all come here with different experiences and that is how we help each other.

Thank you so much, I love my cows, besides the broken toes and feet they are my pride and joy. But I can’t say much for my little duckling pecking me in the nose and eyes hah
