Would this be a good floating duck house? (UPDATED WITH PICS!!!!!)

That's pretty cool, good luck - hope it works!

My concern is having all the weight at one end; can you place the house in the middle of the platform?

Or you might need to add a few more caped PVC pipes under the existing ones to make more "floating force" at that end

I would probably make the ladder/ramp wider. I'm not sure the ducks would be very confident walking up that skinny ramp, especially when it's bobbing all around.

I'd almost give them steps off the platform. Your ducks could be happy with ramps, mine like steps.

I've downloaded google sketch now and am playing with it. I have a brick box and hip roof that is near, not sure if attached, to my box lol Neat tool if I figure out how to use it.

My thinking was that if some of the examples I found on the internet could be floated with empty 2 liter bottles, 4 8ft, 8 inch pipes should be more than enough. [crossing fingers]

Good point. That may have to be a trial and error process.

I have a small boat I can take out on the pond and clean it that way.

Another good point. May have to redesign the ramp.

Best thing you can do is go to youtube and look up some tutorials for sketchup. Wealth of information and basic tutorials there. Once you get the hang of it, it's really easy to design just about anything. You can get pretty technical with it.

Thanks for all your comments and remarks folks. Definitely the kind of "what if's" I was looking for. 2,3,4,5,6 heads are better than 1.

I will post some pics and such as I build it and on the finished product. Could be pics of a floating duck mansion or it could become submerged cover for the fish.

Guess there's only one way to find out.

That's what I was thinking, but it wouldn't work with an anchor on it. You could attach at both sides of the pond, which would keep it pretty stable & you'd be able to run it over the shore.
Little easier then balancing in the boat

If you are putting it into a larger size pond, you could make it do the bottom of the inside slides out and all the debris falls into the water. Then, with it slid out, you could clean it from the boat from behind. Slide it back in and throw some fresh bedding in there.
