Would This Bother You? Donated Eggs and Expectations

Cyn-you have a generous gold heart and a giving spirit...<3
but you have to be happy with your choices and these folks are stressin ya out!!
I volunteered for many years at a similar place before the babies came, and for a few years with them b/c I wanted them to see by example taking care of others in the community. Volunteers are always overwhelmed and trying to keep things organized so maybe he didnt mean to be so blah-maybe its just his personality. (Although I dont know why he takes 2doz of the eggs. ) Probably with the economyn they are just that much more taxed with getting things done.
But so are you. So you need to work out something that makes you feel good, too.
Give then them the run down and let them meet your expectations. If they dont take something so freely given then, oh well, I guess it isnt important to them. If things dont change at least use the cost of the cartons and milage as a deduction and consider yourself a volunteer there.
Thanks for being so kind..

Unfortunately, there arent any deductions since we cannot itemize our taxes and have to take the standard deduction. Guess we can back off and let them call us if they need eggs and can come get them, then look for someone else who needs them badly. We do have a senior center in town and a Meals on Wheels organization so maybe we can work something out with them.

I live in a medium large town and we have a few thrift stores, Bethesda, salvation army etc.
I buy egg cartons at bethesda for 1 or 2 cents each.. I buy a couple of hundred at a time about once a year.. most of my egg customers just automatically return the cartons..(I never asked anyone to).

You must know some people who buy eggs at the store.. Most of them will save cartons for you..

Accept all cartons graciously. take them home and throw the grungy ones away.. but don't tell and don't refuse to take them..

I wouldnt refuse to take cartons. I just wont use any that have been really nasty. All the churches here, or almost all, are little country churches and have no services. Still, it's possible we could find people by asking some of the pastors.

i agree with the church idea. most churches have outreach programs that are for helping homeless, elderly, battered women or people who have lost their home. i am sure someone from a program of that sort would love to get the eggs, and would be glad to pick them up, maybe pay too.
how about meals on wheels? we sell some extras too, and give some away. it only erks me that if you keep asking for free eggs, i think you should help in some manner taking care of the birds because i still have to keep feeding them!
