Would you buy my Mosaics?

Well for a breeding set up you'd need them to be separate from the rest of your flock (especially if you have other roos). Like we are setting up a Ayam Cemani breeding group this spring, we are having a 100% separate coop from my main laying flock. That way all of the eggs will be 100% Ayam Cemani without any risk of getting a "barnyard mix" thrown in there. Then to really make money doing it you'll want to be certified so you can ship eggs and chicks. From what I've seen most people sell eggs more than anything because its easier. Once you get to chicks people usually are wanting specifically hens and selling as straight runs you'll get significantly less money.

Just food for thought.
I have a breeding pen, but it only fits 2 birds at a time. I am not certified. How do I get certified?

How many eggs do Mosiacs lay and how fast do the chicken mature. Also how do they taste and how big do they grow? You might be better off selling Bresse chicks instead. You can always eat the birds you don't sell.......................

I raise chickens for meat and eggs, not for looks.
About 180 eggs a year, I am not sure how fast the mature and they grow normal sized. I don't know how they taste. I like Mosaic because they are much prettier.

For the price, I don't think they are bred to be eaten 😂 which is actually why I wouldn't get them. I eat my birds after about two years

I haven't come across a hen that I loved so much I spared her, yet anyway. But I know tons of peeps keep chickens forever as pets and wouldn't dare eat them.

Here’s information on the program but tbh it seems like you’ve never really bred before and should start off first by learning all these things and then start with just a basic breed or two first. One that might be a little easier to sell and find, maybe just some good layers or popular breeds. Not knowing is fine, of course, nobody knows everything, but I wouldn’t start off with a super expensive possibly trademarked breed where it might be kind of hard to get into or one where you will likely lose money. I would just start off on a common, cheap breed and spend a while learning the basics and how to breed and select good traits, etc. first. Also you will definitely want more than two birds. You will probably want at least a trio or quad or maybe more. One rooster and maybe 2-5 ish females? Would be good to start I think.

If you like them then go for them! Enjoy them! I wouldn't count on getting those higher prices but if its something you love and they make you happy then by all means you should do it! :)

Why not start small and see how much you enjoy it. Just start out hatching for yourself and selling any extra you have. Once you start getting eggs you can sell the eggs or chicks. Most of the animals I really love and am super passionate about on the farm do NOT end up turning much of a profit. They usually just help cover the feed bill and I'm okay with that if its something I really enjoy :)

Start there and then eventually over time you'll be able to decide exactly how big of a scale you want to go :)

Are you looking to buy eggs to hatch and sell the chicks or set up a full scale breeding project?

There are sometimes areas that it can be a legal issue. I've never heard of it with chickens but Glofish for example is a brand in the freshwater fish world. They have found a way to genetically modify fish and sell them in neon colors. If you breed these fish they will breed true to their neon colors. Glofish has their fish trademarked and protected legally. You can only buy them from Glofish licensed retailers and you are legally not allowed to breed them or the company can come after you for damages. Now a random person who has their fish breed in their tank and doesn't sell them likely isn't going to be an issue but if someone tries to ride on their coat tails selling Glofish they bred the company will sue them.

I don't think Gold Feather Farm has them copyrighted or whatever.

I see chicken videos of Mosiacs on YouTube from other people.

Here is a picture of the breed...

That would be me 😂🤣🙈 Although I did butcher a bunch of my quail but I knew I would have to from the beginning and they also all look the same 😂🤣🙈 my named birds I could never 😂 and almost all my chickens are named haha although that said, I am planning on butchering my cockerels soon despite being named but it’s been hard because I love them a lot and also just lost one of their sisters so I only have one female from that group left so not sure I want to butcher the boys 😂🙈 but they crow a ton and have to go. But they are from my late rooster. I also have super old girls not laying but they help make compost and fertilizer 😁 and I’ve buried birds before or fed nature with them 😂🙈🙈 sorry for rambling and also hijacking 😂🙈🙈🙈

Right, I didn't see anything on their site to even imply it. I've never seen a chicken breeder have it. I was more explaining for the sake of knowing the difference between what someone can legally do versus just a grumpy breeder saying don't use my name.
