Would you buy this playhouse?

While it might be more than I would spend for my birds, I think the cost is reasonable for what you are gettin.

I built an 8X8 shed this past summer, bare bones, no frills at all like what you have there and materials ran me ~$650. So the costs are probably close.

I would buy it in a heart-beat. We built a coop/shed about this same size and it cost more then this to build it. We split it in half and keep the chickens in one half and the other half we keep outside stuff and garden tools in. I just love it. Plus, once we decide we are done with chickens it becomes just a nice storage shed.

It probably depends on how handy you are? And what do you have more of: "money or time & talent"? Sometimes a little extra $ is worth getting it done, nicely, now. If you need a new, very nice looking house...then get it. You won't regret looking at this every day. In the long run, this is a nice "investment"...it won't go to waste and look nasty in a couple of years

I think it depends on your resources. Right now in my life, I often need to purchase things as I have a full-time job and children and time is always difficult to manage. I enjoy working on projects, but if I take on too much, nothing gets done. So if you can afford it, I am sure you will get many years of enjoyment out of it. Also, you are supporting your local school with the purchase.

I love it...but would I buy it? Probably not. It seems a bit pricey, since you have to add more paint and the time to paint it. But like others have said, time is money and supporting local school isn't a bad thing either. I'm sure your yard will look nicer than mine, cuz I am using scrap lumber to build my coop.

If you can afford it, the price is good. I built an 8x8x8 shed with an asphalt shingle roof on a concrete foundation. Materials only cost me $2,662.00. Except for the automatic chicken door, all materials came from Lowe's and Home Depot. This did include nests, a supply cabinet and the roosting area "Poo Park".

I love that little house, it is adorable and would make a fabulous Hen Den.

I agree with the mark up, schools get a larger discount than we think! It would most likely not cost that much if you built it yourself. I have a photo of a nice off the ground duck cage type pen with tub for the smaller ducks and were thinking of building something simular for my bantam cochins and silkies! I'd upload the pic but, not sure how! It's pretty large in the photo anyway.

If you decide to get it I'd see if you could get them to paint it for you. If you supply the paint, they do the labor. Course you'd have to wait for it to dry before moving it......maybe not a good idea? I dunno.

Right now I'm at the more time than money season, no way I could afford it. But it's cute and supporting students is always nice.

Sure, you COULD built it yourself more cheaply if you had the know-how, had the time to spend building it, and specced out the materials and got it all to your property.

If you don't and you can afford it, go for it.
