Would you like egg pictures on the Peafowl Image Database?

This ginormous egg was laid by one of my white peahens no wonder she sang the egg song poor thing.

Normal one next to the big one is 116 grams

The peahen eggs normally range from 98 to 122 grams here.

It is a "summer" hot day in PA today, 85 and very humid. Pretty much every actively laying hen I have is walking around in the "stance", even the hens who laid an egg last night. Is this normal in really hot weather, or am I looking at something weird here. And when I say the "stance" I mean seriously, not just a little, the full-on wings to the floor, tail up stance.

With Sage after she lays her wings are still dropped and look like there's another on the way but on the morning of the day she will lay she doesn't show. Once it's within a couple hours of laying she takes on the laying stance. Right now though we have lots of wind right now.

Is she still working on a clutch of eggs? i see hens around here all the time in the egg stance panting and all but don't lay an egg then the next day they lay an egg no stance at all

I've got 6 of them in the stance (some panting and some pacing) 2 of whom laid last night, the rest are due tonight or tomorrow night. Some of mine lay every third day not every other day. The good thing is we just had a thunderstorm go thru and dump some rain, now it feels like a sauna out there. I'd hate to have to try putting all 6 hens in my tub.

And then I follow up that extra calcium egg with this;

They are all fed the same. Guess I will put out some oyster shell for them to pick at, I don't know what else to do.

Unfortunately welcome to breeding season 2015, year of the weird eggs and bound up hens.

I'm glad all my eggs have strong shells with a smooth texture. I hope it continues. Though I only have one of my hens laying.

Oyster shells work great or at least the ones I've been using for my peafowl.
