My two cayuga duckling were out free ranging in our fenced in yard on a beautiful day like they have every day for a week, but today one is missing and the other is injured. I believe it was a dog, duck was covered in slobber. He has a puncture or rip?? In his skin and isn't trying to walk. The foot that seems affected is on the side of the wound, dosnt seem broken tho. I immediately gave him a warm bath, and sprayed the wound with vetericyn wound spray. Hes resting under a heat lamp with food and water with apple cider vinegar in it. It's been 24 hr. And the wound isn't scabbing over. I'm worried about infection setting in. I'm going to the store to by some polysporin. After reading that it was safe to use on ducks. What else should I do.

I have some zinc oxide powder I was considering sprinkling on to help dry it out and heal, but cant find any information as to whether it's safe or not. Duck is alert and eating and drinking, so dont want to do anything to harm him any more.

Where is the puncture at? if on the body clip the feathers back and use the Vetriycin it's
for wounds and infections. Did you go looking for your other duck? dog may have carried it a ways and dropped it? I didn't see the pic yes just keep it sprayed real good and keep the lil one away from flies.

Can you get a pic of the leg? is it swelling or look inflamed? You could try a little warm water and see how it uses it's leg floating but stay right with the duckling. No puncture wound on the leg?
