All right, so a good friend had come over to help me repair my Duck Coop, and looked at her leg wound deeper. As it turns out, the wound is on the other side of the leg in the flesh, and deep. Punctured muscle, poor girl. But she is swimming daily and foraging a bit so good! Laid an egg, drank, ate food!

They are amazing thats for sure. Sounds like she is doing great for what she's been through. As long as you keep the flies off and she is getting water therapy she should heal fine. Now get her some friends...

)! My Blue Swedish Drake had a nasty injury from a weasel just 2 months ago. He came up to the barn, and I noticed that his chest was stained and dripping scarlet. I freaked and ran to pick him up, only to notice that he had a 3 in bite gone out of his neck. You could SEE his Trachea, Esophogus, and body cavity inside the wound perfectly clear. He was beginning to become drowsey from loss of blood. I had little hope that he would make it. The first thing I did was use Stiptic to stop the bleeding. Then, I bought some Blu-Kote from TSC and every evening for a week or so, I sprayed it on a feminine pad, and secured it to his neck with 3M Vetwrap. I also sprayed down the bandage with fly repelant. One thing that will kill them for sure is maggots in a deep wound. He has a pretty good scar now, but he lived none the less. Make sure you keep her calm and let her clean those wounds during bath time.

Here is my drake and his mate. Whispers is on the right. His scar is were the purple is the darkest on his right side. I still can't believe how lucky that duck is, lol.

Good luck, and I hope your ducky gets better!

Hii need some help. I went away for a few days and a friend was feeding my ducks. When I came home my female buffs face looks a little swollen and she has a wound on her neck. It doesn't seem to effect her doing normal things she just keeps trying to clean it and has her swollen eyes and face. Any help?

I have been away for a day or so, just saw this.

I would clip the feathers away from the wound, about half an inch, so you can see and treat.

Keep her in, away from flies - look closely to make sure she does not already have fly strike. It is not fatal if you deal with it right away.

See if the duck sitter has any clues about what happened.

I would look into getting some oral antibiotic - in the meantime, rinse the wound first with some hydrogen peroxide 3% solution, then dab something like Blu Kote or an antibiotic cream (not ointment - nothing greasy) on the wound.

About four times a day I would rinse the area well with saline solution or Vetericyn.

Please keep us posted.
