Wow, freshly-laid eggs are warm!

Ooh, ooh, you have to post it here! Or rather, on youtube then give us a link! Chickens are endlessly fascinating.

I love 'em when they're "hot off the presses", so to speak.

And I scoff at people who cuddle with their chickens, but I like to put the warm eggs up to my face. Especially in January. Go figure.

Thanks! I put the egg on the counter and everyone has spent time admiring it. Chickens have been the best family venture we've launched, by far.

Of course my 5-year-old is ready to go whole hog into a sustainable lifestyle--he asks for animals, not toys, for his birthdays and Christmas! But, one step at a time. Chickens are about the easiest farm animal, in my opinion, because they can be left on their own if we need to be gone for a weekend. I had a childhood of always being home in time for the night milking so I'm not rushing into a true farm any time soon!

I have a security camera in my coop, complete with audio. I just happened to looking at the monitor when a small group of hens were clustered in the corner when one jumped up and ran off, as the group cleared there was a nice new clean egg on the monitor.
It measured 100.4°F on an instant read IR thermometer and weighed 2.1 ounces, which is the largest egg so far since these hens started laying.
