Ahhhh... Thank you for that. I've heard the (split) lingo, but never understood it's meaning. It means they carry lavender and if I was to breed a daughter back to her father I would get wheaten and Isabel chicks

You are very welcomeAhhhh... Thank you for that. I've heard the (split) lingo, but never understood it's meaning.![]()
I have 3 Wyandottes. They definitely let the rest of my girls and young cockerels(when I have them) know who sets at the top of the pecking order, but I wouldn’t say they are mean. They get along together as long as they always get their way.I've only had 2, now 1 SLW. So not tons of experience with them but both mean and bullies. I heard this from others also.
I'm going to re home her soon.
That's how Onyx is, she straight up attacked me with her first clutch this year, so now I have a 3ft rule with herI have 3 Wyandottes. Now when Lacy one of the gold laced Wyandotte is broody she gets real mean she will fight you for a golf ball. When she has actual chicks don’t dare even look at them or she will attack.
I have only had 2 broodys so far both have been broody multiple times. The Wyandotte is mean. Gena my Jersey Giant will grawl and try to block me when I check or take her eggs but that’s about it. When she has chicks she would bring them to me. She wouldn’t let me touch the babies but she wanted to show the chicks where to go for the good treats. That's how Onyx is, she straight up attacked me with her first clutch this year, so now I have a 3ft rule with her![]()
Your way smarter than I am. I'm in that "Hold my beer, let's see what happens" group. That's how Onyx is, she straight up attacked me with her first clutch this year, so now I have a 3ft rule with her![]()
I almost peed myself laughing"Hold my beer, let's see what happens" group.
Most of the time I push my luck with my broodies, and yes, I've been bit and pecked, I just tell myself "Whatever, I'm not gonna be punked out by a chicken", but when I went to get pics of her first chicks and that nut came flying at me like a rooster and kept on keeping on until she thought I was far enough back, that was the end of itAnd then I immediately join the group of... "I told ya there was a good chance we'd end up in handcuffs, but No....you didn't wanna listen."![]()
I hope you get some good olive Egger pullets. I love my Olive Eggers. My girl Blue is my favorite and as you can see by her back she is also my Rooster’s favorite. She is the most friendly hen I have and one of the most protective she regularly lays 4-5 days in a row then takes one day off. My only issue with her is that she refuses to use the nest boxes and always lays her eggs in the far corner of the coop so I have to go inside the run and retrieve them from the back door.On the plus side, I won and got a couple pics...3 under her, 1 didn't make it. 1 egg left.
For anyone along for the ride and don't know these are Olive Eggers..(BCM x EE).
