Wrath's Marans

No I don't technically. And she's the first one I've had that throws both. I would like to learn the genetics of it, tho.
Hopefully someone much more experienced can shed light on the egg...🤣

I do know that duller, matte finish is less desired for SOP. They want a shiny gloss with complete color thru out the egg, so I'm not there yet.
By only hatching from my darkest layers to a rooster that came from a dark egg, the eggs will get darker with each generation.

Joannie, Angels and Betty's pullets are close to POL, so game time is here. If they lay darker than their mothers this tells me Kong came from a dark egg.

All sciency and stuff...šŸ˜‰
This are some good looking dark eggs! I don't know about the bloom bit, but that's cool you have an egg layer giving you different finishes.

You're going to have so many chicks!!!

You’re going to be up to your eyeballs in baby chicks!!!! 🤣
That's not a bad place to be :love

It's going to get interesting for sure. 🤣
I'll be right behind you with what should be a whole pile of chicks hatching 8/17. What's your address? They won't be marans but we can hide a few Orpingtons and Wyandottes in your flock right? When you already have as many chicks as you're hatching, what's 20 more?

You can bring the Orpingtons leave the Wyandottes....not a fan. 🤣

Seriously though, if only 3 chicks hatch under every hen, that's 21 chicks, all within a couple weeks of each other :lau
Really not a lot of eggs because I just didn't have them....They're all broody..🤣
Didn't set any eggs from Momma or Dbl yellow because their eggs are too light. I might do a test hatch in the future, but as it stands I should just move them along. Jett and Copper I wanted to, but they both went broody, but they both have decent hackle color especially 'Copper' so Im fearing more over coloring from them.
I really have no room to talk, I had a gentleman that I sold chicks to a couple years ago text me wanting 30 chicks, so I set 40 eggs last Friday:he:lau Luckily, they will only be with me for a day or 2
This is where I'm aiming to go. Or just get to a point I can sell good looking eggs and be confident I'm producing good birds. It's a hard start, but it's a start..... šŸ™‚
