Wrath's Marans

Pics
It's rough...she's a long layer so I don't know if shes laying or wanting to sit again when she's in the nest box. I had eggs in each one for the pullets but that was encouraging the hens again, I think. 🤬
All I can tell you is my experience with them, I've had 2, the worst was Dahlia, she went broody 4 times in 1 year:he But with her and Onyx, they'd lay a ridiculous amount of eggs in a row, like 13-14, take a day off then do it again, then POOF crazy-time🤣

Yes that's a sensitive one you got going on.

When I was at the feed store today they had chicks for $1. I almost just bought her a couple. It wouldn’t technically break her broody but I’m sure it would move her along to the next stage. Last time she was broody I gave her 4 chicks and she happily raised them.

Today’s $1 chicks were ISA brown, Light Brahma, and Cornish Cross. I don’t need any more chicks right now so I decided. If the would have had Marans or Legbar today I probably would’ve caved into chicken math.

Joannie and her daughter are either on the same lay schedule or I have stalker competition..😃

One of Jett's little ones passed away last night. Acting lethargic and listless yesterday suddenly in the run so I put Jett back in her cage and tucked the baby under her, but to no avail. It was the runt so maybe it was failure to thrive.
Pic was taken just before I noticed it looking weak and sleepy

I’m sorry 😞 it’s so hard losing chicks

Thanks.... :hugs

This is my first loss after hatch at just 6 days old. Most I see are at hatch. This one was one of Ravens eggs, so Jett has 1 more of Ravens and the adoptees from the 'Black incident'. And Dbl yellow has 8 more of Ravens eggs eta the 14th.

Took a few pics of a few of the boys tonight. All 3 are these are Betty's (10 wks) and I'm just looking at the minimal chest copper.
Pink/orange band had the head spot at hatch, but he does have an M comb.

Pink/blue in the middle had no copper for the longest time, barely any at 8 weeks. Head spot is on the left.

Thanks bud, yes it sounds like they're close. Post pics when you get them. 👍

I believe I have a new layer. I didn’t catch anyone in the act but I collected these two over the past few days. They look really big for pullet eggs so I wasn’t sure when I found the first one but this shape and color combo is not typical for my girls.

I’m heading into work now but when I return home tomorrow morning I’ll be off until Saturday so I’ll be peeking in several times a day to figure out who these belong to.
