A lill' bit of back story... One of my girls ( i currently have 2) Has always laid crazy big eggs.. Usually misshapen, sometimes swirled on top. Ridges, flat spots, Huge triple yolkers. I am amazed she hasn't gotten eggbound.
Recently she had laid about 2 or 3 huge mega ridged wrikley shells water whites , eggs. She hasn't laid a wrinkle one in a few days. The last one was a nice average looking eggs and the "wrinkly" ones have not all been in a row. There have been 2 or 3 regular looking in between. All I can find is Bronchitis. The 3 eggs she laid look just like them.

I haven't really notice any other real symptoms other than sneezing, which I originally attributed to the season change.. She still is out free ranging her tail is all perky and proud. She is eating fine. At least from what I can tell.. Her face isn't puffy at all. No discharge out of nostrils or eyes. Still drinking water My other girl has barely even sneezed.

I am sooo confused...Bronchitis or not?? There isn't much I can find on how to make my girl comfy. Do you throw out all the eggs? When can we start eating the eggs again? Should I add electrolytes to their water?A vitamin boost of some type? I do the ACV or garlic ( alternating) every second water refill... what else can I do? I am as organic and natural as I can get.

ALSO.. I have two new point of lay hens coming on the 4th Of November.. If bronchitis is airborn I I'm screwed... Do I cancel my order? Do I solder on and quarantine for 4 weeks instead of 2? Would that even do any good? Any little tid bit of advice would be greatly appreciated! I am a research a holic but just can't seem to find a whole heck of a lot pertaining to my situation.......

That does sound like you may have had a case of infectious bronchitis going around. In grown birds, the only symptom you may see is sneezing. Watery albumens (whites) and wrinkled shells are pretty classic, and there can be a slowdown in laying. IB can make flocks carriers from 5 months to a year after an outbreak. The started pullets would probably handle getting IB okay, but I would not hatch or add any more birds for at least a year after the last illness.

I believe that I had an outbreak of IB a few years ago. Sneezing was the only symptom. Here is a good article about egg shell problems and a couple on IB:

Hey there,

How is your girl doing now? I have a very similar situation on my hands: wrinkly eggs from my 1 yr old black sex link, 17% protein in the layer feed, a little sneezing in the flock, but otherwise things are pretty normal.

She's been laying these wrinkly eggs for a few months now and she seems fine... sooo... maybe it's nothing to worry about?
