Wry Neck? Hypothermia?

ok ya'll...just got back from town...came home with $40.88 worth of stuff so i sure hope something works!!! antibiotics, wormer, dust and vitamins....now i hope i don't overdose the poor thing!! he's still hangin on...

i hope all of this will bring him back to me!! i miss that little crow already!

ok, so i've dusted the houses and the boxes i've put the bantams in, including little Benny's box. I changed all the papers in them as well. I have given him .5 ml of something called Poultry Nutri-Drench (some sort of vitamins it says) and I have in front of me something called Wazine 17 (wormer), Duramycin-10 (antibiotic) and Durvet Vitamins and Electrolytes. I wasn't sure if the Nutri-Drench would be enough bc it doesn't have Vitamin B in it so that's why i got the Durvet...hoping somebody can tell me the best way to administer all of this wonderful stuff. Oh and according to the scales (kitchen scales) he is only 1 1/4 pounds!!! (I told you he was a little guy!!) OOOHH!! and mites!! totally not what i thought!! i only saw a couple of little baby ones on his face last night....yeah, well, upon further investigation around his vent there are more and they are BIGGER!!!

after applying the dust (I hope i did it right and didn't over do it!), they started dropping off!! GAG! My little girls have some too so they got a dusting as well. Still a bit confused though bc the package says to avoid skin contact so why am i putting it on my birds???!!!??????? Thanks again for all ya'll help and to the nice man in the Tractor Supply aisle who helped me make a final decision on the products!!

If you can, take the Wazine back and exchange if for liquid Safeguard for Goats or Safeguard horse paste wormer if they don't have the liquid. Wazine only gets roundworms.

As for actually treating wry neck, if that's what it is, I cannot offer any suggestions as I have not treated it before, but I can give you advice an tubing and worming. :D

oh wow!  and i have to put the dust on each bird individually??!     wow!  anybody want some chickens?!!  and again i ask, how is the sevin dust safe for HIS skin but not mine????  it says to avoid skin contact. ??????  also, poor benny sounds "raspy", for lack of a better word.  when i lift his head to give him fluids, i can hear air inside his passageways.  the other day i noticed his craw/crop (??) was enlarged so i massaged it a little and i'm guessing it was all the water i had given him????? when i massaged it, it went down...so now i rub it everytime i give him fluids.  ???????? is there more to his condition that i'm unaware of??  so lost right about now...up at 6 a.m. to reheat his water bottles and he doesn't look as good now as he did last night.  :hit

Bringing you back to the emergency side of the forum.

Raspy noises could be anything. Were he is sick, underlying illness could be surfacing.

How is he today?

-Kathy
he is pretty much the same as he's been since tuesday when i brought him inside. at least outside he was trying to walk around!! it seems as soon as i brought him in, he plummeted to almost comatose!! He still responds by opening his eyes, he still drinks the fluids i put in his mouth via medicine dropper, he still poops (and the last ones have had some consistency to them i guess bc of the vitamins??) and he will flap his wing pretty hard...oh and he also seems to stretch his feet a little more. overall, i'd say he's TRYING to recover, but still having trouble, especially with his neck. perhaps if i could get that part "fixed", he might would attempt to stand up on his own. ??? weather is too bad here today to venture out for the safeguard so it will have to be tomorrow before i get that. also, i put the dust on him mid afternoon yesterday and almost immediately, mites started dropping but as of last night, i could still see some crawling around. do i need to add more dust or give more time?
