Long story short, I saved some eggs from a hoarder hen, one pipped last evening, started strong, got stuck, I zipped the shell and it hatched ok. But now I have a case of wry neck on my hands, something I've never treated. We are out in the middle of no where, and I was wondering if someone could help me find a Vitamin e supplement that I could find at either my local drug store or farm store. advice badly needed, thanks in advance!

The pharmacy will carry vitamin E oil capsules. Get the 400iu strength. Then grab a small bottle of selenium tablets. The dose is one 400iu oil capsule plus a sliver of the selenium to enable the E to be absorbed quickly. Squeeze the oil mixed with the selenium into the right side of the beak.Do it once a day until the chick is strong and walking around normally. Shouldn't take long to square it away.

Thanks! Hoping is simply a vitamin deficiency, I'll keep you posted!

Okay, I think my diagnosis was a bit early, because now she's doing perfectly fine! Eating by herself, she's not having anymore symptoms! I think what I was seeing was akin to when sometimes baby chicks will sleep on their backs early on like they would in the egg, but it seems to have resolved itself!

That's great it resolved. Had you given any vitamin E at all?
Not yet, I'm wondering if it had something to do with its position in the shell? That would maybe explain why it was stuck. Anyway, I'm keeping an eye on it and if it starts up again I'll know just what to treat it with!
