hello all, i will be coming all the way from Baltimore, MD and will be looking for RIR or BO chicks specifically. I am really looking foward to getting more chicks- I just had a fox take two of my hens yesterday...i'm down only 3 hens now.
Question- To all Vendors and breeders hatching those breeds, how much do you normally charge per chick? just for a rough estimate, PM me.

I normally charge $2.50 a chick

Do you sex them? I ask because the last straight run a got turned out to be 80% males.

Hi gang. I just received an email from Tom Topper. Now we have another conflicting date.

The York show is scheduled for April 23rd I know lots of people from this area go to it, including: Majestic Lane Poultry, silkieluver_07, chickenboy, etc.

why isn't this easy anymore?

Everyone must be in a hurry to get the season started.
Hey it's cool Tammy if y'all want to show that day we understand.
Hey do you have the show dates?
Also feel like helping a first timer at showing?
Oh does you Maryland friend have any blue fawn call ducklings????
Can't get them out of my mind!
Maybe we should do another swap in may since it seems that some of the breeders/sellers might or might not be there?
Just putting it out there since I know Tammy really wants to show and swap. Along with a few others.
How those silkie babies?
I have a 101 to hatch friday. Some are from new lines and new breeders can't wait to see how they look.

Hey everyone, the Breeders List was a big hit the past couple of swaps and really got the attention of potential buyers when they saw the lengthly list. Let's start compiling.

I'll have (all birds under 6 months)
black rosecombs
welsummers
delawares
jumbo coturnix quail

Please post here and Tonya can update her first post as it accumulates. After it gets lengthly, I'll update the blog, then we can do a bunch of craigslist ads.

So, either post here or pm tonya with your list of what you'll be bringing; chicks, started birds, gamebirds, bators, equipment, coops, cages, etc.

Or just email me and I will save it and make a list and email the fininal list to Erin to update site.
Make sure you put in subject line what I'm bringing to swap or swap list so I know it's not spam.

ya know chicken raising has made me quite a bit colder about my animals... I love them all but, the first time an egg wasn't going to make it and I helped.. it ended in tragedy. My heart broke a little. We had chicks that didn't make it and some we had to put down and then it got harder when some of the birds I have raised to adulthood and had taken to shows and even bonded with a bit had to be put down. I used to make my husband do it but, then started feeling guilty about that. After all, this IS my thing. so, I started culling. It's been getting easier until last week.

It was a super cold morning and I opened up my big barn with the large fowl layers. Two roos came out all busted up. These brothers have been fine with eachother all winter! One was far worse. OF COURSE it was the super nice welsummer with the perfect comb and broad chest... would it be anyone else

He kind of hobbled along like an old man over to the bush where he laid all day. I walked by him a couple times and kept thinking... can't believe he's still there. After dark, I went to lock everyone up and .. he was still there. I put him back in the barn in one of the nesting boxes and said goodnight.

The next morning I opened them up and he was still in the nesting box. I took some pity on him and brought him in to see what was up. One entire side of his face was black and frozen... I couldn't quite tell if he lost an eye or not. I was so upset. How could I just walk by him all day and not take a closer look! When I put him up... why didn't I see that? Did he get attacked again... because I put him back in there? ahhhh.....

So, I put him next to the heater in the bathroom and let his face kind of thaw out... well, it was caked on blood that had dried like cement... so, rinsed in warm water. That really didn't help either. So, I started picking off the crust to find skin... It wasn't a scab so i started digging a bit more .. trying to find that eye.. if there was even one there anymore. His comb was torn up, he couldn't move nor see out of one eye and he was just miserable. I gave him some vitamins and electrolytes and offered him some wet mash in which he refused. I let him go a few more hours then went to work on that crust again. This time I found the eye!!! It was still there! and he was so happy to be able to see again. He started trying to stand and I would support him until he got tired and laid down again.

I went to bed that night and decided he was going to make it and that other one was to be sold with a hen on craigslist the next day!

Well, the next morning I came down stairs and he had passed in the night....

I am just so bummed about him. SO, if anyone has a nice wellie roo, they would consider selling, please pm me. Im looking for one from nice lines, that has a broad breast and ... a nice comb

And, I promise, the other roo WILL be gone.

You know what they say about how to heal the loss of one love...
