What all do you need from us for the sale? When do we have to let you know for sure what we are bringing / coming to sell?
I'll be a newbie if all works out for me to sell chicks. I'll be there to buy for sure!

Not yet. I am waiting until the first week of February. Maybe then he won't want to pay me a visit until it warms up a little. When you have about 100 chickens to catch like I do,

you (or more specifically me) want it to be a tad bit warmer!

How about "...local breeders who are affiliated..."?

You have a complex sentence with two subjects. The first one, "event" is single and thus needs "is" as the verb. The second subject is "breeders" which is plural and should have "are" is the verb.

Don't use "whom"! "Who" kind of acts as a verb, the action the subject is doing. "Whom" would have the noun on the receiving end of the action, as in "with whom the local breeders are affiliated." I can't begin to remember how to explain the exact grammatical rules with direct objects, etc.

That said, the flyer is gorgeous. I live near Hagerstown and really wish I could go to the meet, but I have an out of town commitment that day. I'm pretty new and would love to meet local chicken fanatics. I went to the fall meet and was saddened when I saw de-beaked chickens for the first time.

I went to the fall meet and was saddened when I saw de-beaked chickens for the first time.

I know how you feel! I ordered a dozen Red Sex Links from our local feed store only to find them debeaked when I picked them up. Actually, I had to post a pic here to see if that's what 'debeaked' looked like. As bad as it looks and as bad as I felt for them at first, I will say that they are the sweetest chickens I've ever been around. From talking to folks here, that tends to be the case w/alot of birds bred for commercial production. They are laying machines so I don't worry too much about their nutrition. I feed crumbles, keep them deep in the feeder and they do fine. They just look a little weird and I get sad if I think about it too much. I can't help what was done b4 I got them but I can make them fat and happy for as long as I can!

Cool beans Msbear! I'm actually in Boonsboro, on Clevelandtown Road and I know exactly where Mondell Road is. Small world story: I was on a ferry in Canada early one morning in 2002, going from New Brunswich to Nova Scotia, about a thousand miles from home. (Nobody there heard of Maryland, so I would just say I was from DC.) I started talking to a guy who grew up on Main Street in Keedysville, six houses down from the house I lived in at the time. A hurricane had been tracking up there at the time and his bus had been diverted from the ferry that went from Maine to Halifax.

As much as I want to help any birds, I hate supporting practices I personally don't believe in. The debeaked birds I saw looked like they could use my help but I just didn't want to contribute. My first chickens ever turned out to be Cornish X meat birds. I haven't eaten a bird in ten years, too much like eating my friends, though I eat other meat. I can't believe I contributed to the practice of birds bred for characteristics that make for short and miserable lives so that overfed Americans can get more 99 cent nuggets. My girls have just started dying off of heart attacks at 8 months old, but I'm glad I could give them a decent life. I'm sure you've done the same for your debeaked birds Orpygal

Oooh, while I'm here, anyone know where/how I can get female Polish chicks this spring after the last week in April ? I'm only trying to get about 3 or 4, to balance out my roo ratio. I've had better luck with the Top Hats so am more inclined to stick with them. I had some silver and gold laced and they died mysteriously when less than a week old while the others in the brooder did fine. It made me wonder if they're just more fragile.

And this might be for another page, but I'd like to get a couple female Muscovy babies around that time also.

I love the boys and have really sweet roos and drakes but I know I have more than the recommended number of them, so I don't want to push my luck getting straight run.

I'm not planning on breeding. These are all pets, with eggs as a fringe benefit, so "quality" stock other than good health, is not important to me.

Thanks!

I may or may not have stuff to bring. Right now I have too many stinking cockerels. 3 Rosecomb cockerels and I just got rid of the two xtra Delaware, one leaves next week and we ate the other one this evening. Im 2 seconds from a rosecomb sandwich!

Im pretty sure I'll have some Delaware cockerels to get rid of by then and maybe some rosecomb cockerels.
