UPDATE:
I loaded both dogs up with me the next morning and planned on taking them to the shelter near my family's home, about 4 hours from my home. On the way I stopped at the dairy queen to eat and let both dogs out to go potty (about 2 hours from my house). I got my food and went back out to my pickup to let the dogs out, sat on the tailgate and ate while they did their business, sat there for about 20 minutes. A few passerby-ers asked me what they were, etc....I told them I found them walking down the road, and was going to take them to the pound, felt so bad for them, I didn't know what breed they were-they weren't mine, etc.. and a lady couldn't help herself and took them
She didn't want them to go to the pound and she thought they were just "soo cute"
SUCKER! I hope she doesn't have chickens
Not a word from the neighbors, I doubt they even know their dogs are gone
My nephew is now 4 days old
My hubby is back home and all birds are fine. No more wiener dogs to worry about
Just a sweet baby for me to snuggle for a few more days!!!!!!
Within the past week, the neighbors dogs have discovered we have chickens. Our "neighbors" live exactly 1.2 miles south of us, and we've both lived here for years and never had an issue. Oh---did I mention they don't speak but like 3 words of english?
Or at least pretend not to speak english.
It's 2 weenie dog/blue heeler male crosses
quite interesting looking creatures, both probably weigh 35lbs each. Within the last 3 days, they've been down to our house FOUR TIMES and killed 6 chickens and one lavender baby guinea
The first 2 times I just loaded the dogs up and took them back home (dumb dumb dumb!). I left them in their goat pen because there is no fenced yard and no one was home. Being the weenie dogs that they are, they dug out.
The third time I got the dogs and took them back home and left them in their horse trailer with a bucket of water and a "your dogs were killing my chickens please keep them at home" note on their door. Mind you it is HOT and I worried all day about the dogs in that metal trailer, even though it's a stock trailer. I also noticed they had 2 goats running around loose at their house
The man showed up at our house that evening with his grandson (who speaks english) and they apologized and offered to pay for the chickens they killed that day. I said no to the $, just asked that they kept their dogs at home, etc. Well the next dang morning the little dogs are back again at like 7am and I take them BACK to the horse trailer and left another note on their door.....that time no apology from them.
Tonight I go to the grocery store and as I'm pulling into the driveway the little weenie turds are back again trying to dig into my silkie pen!!
They also got one of my leghorn hens, one of my best layers!
(our non-silkies free range).
I ran right in the house and got a pack of lunch meat and caught both dogs and put them in our big blue dog kennel/crate. Picked up my poor dead leggie hen and sat and fumed for a while. It's now nearly midnight and both dogs are in the kennel in my garage howling
.
I can't take them back to their home, obviously these people aren't interested in keeping their dogs confined and they'll just come right back and kill more birds.
If I take them to the pound tomorrow, there's a chance they'll just go pick them up--- if I can even take them there. There's no animal control out here as we're in the boonies and I'm sure the people at the pound will think I'm trying to dump my dogs off or something.
The kicker of it all is that my sister is being induced with her first baby tomorrow and I've planned on being out of town (3 hours away) for the next several days
My DH is gone out of town working, too. I've got my MIL coming to take care of birds in the evening, but who knows what could happen during the day while she's at work. Now I've got 2 stupid dogs with even dumber owners that need to be dealt with before I can leave! GAAH!
