@CindyinSD Yeah, I was looking at the Chantecler. It’s nice to know you like the ones from Hoover’s. I was thinking I might get some of them and some Buckeyes and see which I like best.

The Chantys are bigger by a lot—I do like my Buckeyes, but you'll want them from somewhere other than Cackle if size is your motivating factor. I hear Meyers is good, but haven't tried them. A good breeder is preferable of course, if that's a possibility for you. For me, it's a long way to find that sort of stock.

Mine don't have that problem because the coop is a natural windbreak for them.

Ours mostly stay in the less windy areas but they free-range so they are confident and go around the yard getting blown about. On really windy days they stay in their coop and run.

The turkeys and geese were all out, standing around in the shelter betwixt house & hill, but they looked miserable. The chickens (with a couple exceptions) spent the day indoors. I'm beginning to suspect that chickens are the smart ones... and the ducks. The ducks, for some reason, left the greenhouse to spend their day with the barn chickens as they often do. Then they trekked home again through the gale. Ducks. I don't get it.

The Viking potato plant is up to the top of the 5 gallon bucket. I have been filling the bucket as it grows. The bucket is now about 2/3 full of potting soil.
