Good luck trying to bear proof your coop. And everyone complains about raccoons

LMAO!!!!!!!!

I can totally see this. So glad it worked out well, and not with momma coming at you instead of away.

After you finish repairing the damged coop, you need to go to The Sports Authority. There you will find what is needed to take care of your bear problem. They used to have a large hunting supply section. Think of it this way, if you can use a fly swatter to handle a fly, what would you use to handle four hundred pounds of muscle. Then get the next larger size. My three choices are a 75 pound pull bow, a 30/06 and a 12 guage magnum with 000 buckshot.

Not needed Pan. Already own a 300 rem ultra mag, A Matthews bow and various shotguns. The problem is my Neighbor is only about 50 yards from me. The bow would work but it usually takes em awhile to expire. A bear shot in my neigborhood (fatally or not) would NOT be a good thing.

Well, most people see bear as dumb animals, but they're actually quite smart. If 'your' bear can find any easier food to get, your coop just might be on it's list under the Too Much Trouble To Bother category.

Yeah, your yard is a no shoot zone for sure, and I agree a hot fence strand wrapped around the building and pen will go a long ways to discourage them... people in Alaska use them with much (though not total of course) success. I had a friend up there who had a barn with goats, and she figures that's all that saved them a few times. One or two zaps on the nose makes them decide it's better to avoid the place. They tend to learn fast and well though teenage bears are more reckless, and RestlessCrow, a mom with cubs is both more dangerous AND more cautious if that makes any sense. So a hot wire with cubs around and the mom will take the cubs far away as long as she's not starving.
