Thanks for the suggestion of electric fencing, but with a mentally handicapped child running around I dont think that would be the greatest idea. But it was a good thought.

Can you put the electric wire on top (out of reach of child) to prevent climbing? Combined with a wire "skirt" on the bottom (to prevent digging) it may work to protect your chickens from foxes and dogs.

I bury the wire skirt around my runs. keep the kiddo from tripping or getting cut on the wire
