Okay I finally have some time to give you more detailed info. I think before I just told you how many eggs I had set. Sorry if this is redundant 😂

Location: Chassell, MI
Current batch: 8 chicken eggs from my flock (barnyard mix), set 3/10. Set in a Janoel 12.
Humidity: holding at 19% but if it dips lower than that I will probably increase it to somewhere in the 20s. Otherwise I will not be adding water.

Notes:
I am thinking I will be candling D7, D14, and D18. I want to candle less than I did last time because I kind of wonder if I over handled the eggs.

I will stop turning D14.

I just got the call from my post office that my duck eggs showed up :celebrate so I will be picking them up today, candling, and deciding how long to rest them before setting. 7/8 of these will go in a Brinsea Mini Advance II. If they are all undamaged I may stick the 8th egg in the Janoel.
That means I'll be able to see little duckies 🙈

I would like to ask everyone how they calculate their hatch rates so that we can decide if we are going to subtract the clears (unfertiles) or if we are doing the complete total of eggs we put in including clears
I generally subtract the clears. It gives me a better idea of how my equipment functions and how well my techniques work.

Here's how I do it:
(Total eggs) - (unfertilized eggs) = ((fertilized eggs)/(total eggs))*100= %fertility

(Fertilized eggs) - (quitters before lockdown) = ((viable eggs)/(fertilized eggs))*100 = %viable

(Viable eggs) - (unhatched eggs after hatch) = ((hatched eggs)/(viable eggs))*100 = %hatch

I sure hope so! They are resting point side down in an egg carton right now; I'm trying to decide how long to let them rest for. There is one air cell that's a little loose and most of them are saddled. 🤞 they were pretty reasonably priced so if this doesn't go so well I will try again...I really want cayugas.

I subtract clears for my hatch rate. I only keep track of them for fertility rates of a rooster.

I would just put them in the incubator in the turner but not turn it on. Let them rest for 24 hours without the turner on and then start the turner.
