I just picked up 55 feathers in the pen from my 3 year old Bronze BS.
What would cause him to molt at this time of year?
Mites?
Worms?
Worst part is, I've only gotten 2 eggs from 5 hens so far...
How long has your male had his train?
My oldest male is starting to drop his train also but he started getting his first train last year around october so he has had his train along time and i was expecting him to start to molt when i noticed his feather shafts were getting brighter than his colored train.
a couple of my boys are going thru an early moult as well .. i threw their cycle off by keeping lights on 24/7 in the pen all winter ...sucks now, but i'm curious to see how it plays out in the fall....
I can not remember how long this guy had his train.
I called Craig Hopkins last night & the 1st thing he asked was if I kept a heat lamp on them during winter.
I did not. He said to worm him and the others as well...shouldn't hurt anything.
He also mentioned that loosing feathers @ this time of the year shouldn't hurt fertility.
Did you have any lights at all on? I had mine in with my chickens year before last and had the lights on a timer for the hens. When I cut the time back, my pea responded by dropping his train. Depending on why he is dropping it, yes it could hurt fertility (at least thats what Deerman told me). Here is my post about it: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/632915/how-bad-did-i-mess-up
My peacock is young (3). I can't remember when his full train came in, but he is molting now also. Have also gotten NO eggs from my female. Weird. :/ Turkey's seem to he on track, though. Lol
Help! I bought a breeding pair of India blue peafowl last summer at the end of breeding season where the male (George) promptly lost his plume, it grew back over the winter but now in April he has lost nearly all of his tail plume again!! And he is losing several feathers a day. Will this keep them from breeding this summer?? Will he regrow his plume in time for the season??
I have a pied peacock and he's almost all white with a little bit of greenish bluish on his neck. But he has no train at all I know it starts at 2 years but I see peacocks a year old with already some colors in starting to think he's a she
