YO GEORGIANS! :)

She just died :( how do I properly dispose of her, bury her? Im sorry if I sound ignorant, I just need guidance. I'm so sad. She was a silver lace wyandotte

You likely already have them, doesn't mean you'll never come across a nasty. But I don't see where transplanting a couple kings from elsewhere would be any trouble.. I'd welcome them even if I had to sacrifice a few eggs here and there. Honestly though I think your rat snakes are worse for egg eating. I could be wrong and I'm sure someone will correct me. I've had no troubles with any thus far. *KNOCKONWOOD*

Aw I'm sorry but glad it wasn't prolonged.
As for disposal, do you have land? I personally toss my dead in the pasture and the buzzards make quick work of them. But we have lots of buzzards that nest in the woods behind is, so... We never smell anything.

ok, we may consider that.
I wonder about goats too, are the natural repellents?

Hmmm I don't know? Be interested to hear though!!

Hope I didn't sound heartless about the disposal, it's just that my first loss was all but one of my flock. To bury all those would have been a bit much drama for my taste, so I chose the au natural route. ;)

I've been having problems with rat snakes lately. I've had to deal with 5 of them so far this year. They've been averaging about 4 to 5 feet in length. Last fall we had 2 huge timber rattlesnakes in our yard.

Fortunately, this one trapped itself in a trap I keep set for possums. I think it tried to get to the chickens, and got in the trap instead.
But the ones that I worry about are the pygmy rattlesnakes, you don't see them until it's too late. I've tried the "snake away" pellets, but once it rains it washes away. Any kind of boot is better than flip flops, a bad habit if which I am guilty.
