Got home and found the one chick dead in the brooder (fully expected).. But also found the brooder thermometer TOPPED OUT at 120*F because my dumb *** left the giant heat lamp on it all day not thinking about it being 95* on the screened porch anyway.

SOMEHOW all the chicks are fine, no clue how they didn't die but apparently there was just enough room in the Rubbermaid to keep cool. Jesus. If I don't kill something else today I'll be doing great.

Highlight: got SAND in my layers/yunguns' run today!! And it was FREE sand left from a job my uncle just finished. So now I can use the sand we were gonna BUY in my other run.

I think I also want a little more in here but at least for now it's taken away the flies' breeding ground here.



Also, my broody hen just won't quit so I have her seven eggs just now. Until I get another bator I'm gonna let her do the work for me. We shall see...

I wonder if I let my broody sit on unfertilized eggs, will she give up in 21 days when they don't hatch? But that means more eggs for a snake to get

I am looking for some blue laced red or gold wyandottes to add to my flock. If anyone has any chicks please pm me. My Dw needs some more birds to spoil rotten.

Hope to be hatching some BLRW on the first of August. You can get most of them if you want to wait that long. I only want a female or two.
 
I will let u know if I dont find anything in the next week or so my wife wanted to get some for my b day this week.we went to champion hatchery in shady dale this afternoon and I would not buy there birds,they had dead baby's in every brooder and others that where sick and not going to make it. The owners told me that I need to buy twice as many as I need because half of there chicks will always die . I have never bought from a hatchery before but I did not like them. I got home and disinfected very thing we had on before we even got in the house.
