YO GEORGIANS! :)

Hello Georgia thread!

I am looking for advice/information regarding keeping backyard chickens in SE coastal GA/Glynn county/Brunswick area. Does any one know what the county ordinances are? Does Brunswick have anything in their laws regarding chickens? Any neighboring counties/towns allow them if Glynn Co/Brunswick doesn't? I poked around the county website but haven't found anything yet...

I may be moving from Phoenix, AZ to that area and want to make sure I can take my flock with me!!!

any advice/suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

I would call the Glynn County Extension Office and ask. If they don't know the regulations, they'll probably be able to tell you who to call to find out....maybe the Zoning Office? But when I have a question, my County Ext Ofc usually has the answer or sends me to the right place.

Thank you! I will give that a try too. I am also looking at S. McIntosh county and N. Camden county. So far it looks like the unincorporated parts of the counties work best, but also have to be zoned as agricultural/ livestock/forest.....

I live in S. Camden county. Try looking for Agricultural Residential (AR) property, that would be your best bet but verify with county zoning department. You are allowed to have 10 hens inside the St Mary's city limits. You must meet setbacks from other peoples properties (I think it's 15 feet.) Chickens and coops cant be visible from the street and there's a $45 permit fee.

has anybody purchased marans from Jim Hughie? I am looking for good quality Jeane marans (Black/Blue Coppers and Birchen). Mr. Hughie is quite high compared to others but it is very hard to find nice marans at all. I already have a quad of Black coppers bred by Tommy Culpepper (through someone that bought from him and trying to thin out his flock).. I am not trying to stir for drama... thanks.

Hello from Fort Valley GA!

Hi PeachgirlGA...... Long long long years ago I worked in Macon and Peach county was one of my areas to cover in our aging programs!!!! Love those peaches down there. I have a few trees on our farm but will always treasure memories of picking out of the back of the pickup truck! I think the area I picked is now a mall but memories are there!

Welcome to BYC and our Georgia group. You'll find it superfriendly and helpful! What kind of poultry do you have????

Dawg,

thanks for the info! It looks like I will be moving to GA in a little over a month, although temporarily chickenless.

DH will be joining me sometime later, with our chickens (can you say cross-country adventure road trip?!).

I know this is a chicken board, but does anyone have recommendations for realtors in the Glynn/Brunswick and/or McIntosh, Camden counties? I'll be in an apartment or some sort of shorter term housing until my DH can join me, but want to start researching houses and property too.....

thanks & happy Tuesday!

It will be an adventure! I had moved from PA to GA in October with chickens, dogs & cats and everything that could go wrong, did but everyone made it safe and sound! Just wait until you pull in for gas and the roosters start to crow. Everyone was trying to figure out where it was coming from! I am sorry I do not know of realtors. I had done a private sale. Good luck on your move and I hope all goes well. Oh, cut up lots of fruits & veggies to give the chickens along the way to keep them well hydrated!

I'm new here and was begin to think I was alone. Guess I just haven't hit any of the right threads to see any GA posts. I've seen a few from Al though.

oohh never alone.. we are a friendly group here on the GA board.. members from all over the state. Makes it nice when you are looking for something in particular.. you can usually find it close by. I live in Milner.. which is south of Griffin --between Jackson and Barnesville.. right off I-75

With that being said.. I am currently searching for a SILVER LACED WYNDOTTE ROOSTER.. anyone have one to sell?
