YO GEORGIANS! :)

No...this is my first year having chickens. We ended getting hatchery silkies. I have 12 of them. I ended up with 3 hens

. They are not nearly as beautiful as any of these that I have seen but they still have quite the personality. I would love to have some Catdance babies like your precious babies. I just have to wait til next spring. I don't want to hatch anything so close to winter right now. Plus, my coop/ run is running over. If you know of anyone that wants any beautiful bantam mixes or hatchery silkies, send them my way. I hate to get rid of any of them...they are all so sweet and beautiful. Now that I know about what I have going on (with chickens), I'd like to find just a couple of breeds and have that only. We just got egg happy and chick happy when we first started raising chickens. Its' so easy to do.
I hear ya...we were given 3 silkies and 1 Mille Fluer D'Uccle from an employee that my hubs works with. They were our first chicks ever and even though they are not of the quality of Catdance they are still our babies. One of the whites has a yellow beak and feet and light eyes

, the cockerel has split wing with caramel leakage on his neck, the Mille Fluer has a crossed beak. And last is well, she is a mess(check out her feathers they are glued together by mash) because she gets in the mash that's for my broke beakThen I wanted more

so I scoured the listings and found someone in GA who was getting rid of all her birds. She had silkie sizzles. I went and picked up a silkie x who is the one who sat on my eggs and is a smooth feathered silkie x and is so pretty to me. I also got two "ugly" sizzles don't know what I was thinking...they don't look anything like other sizzles but I wasn't smart enough to figure that out. They have given us eggs daily and one of them is sitting on those mystery eggs from the show. Live and learn. That's why I went with Catdance eggs so I could get a better silkie. But, even with Catdance silkies, I have noticed one chick has fused toes, one has an extra toe nail on the side, and one has a toe on each foot that is half white, haha, so nothing is guaranteed.

It is always a worry that all the chicks will turn out to be roos

and I don't know what I will do if that is the case...I guess sell them
sad.png
It will be really hard for me as I get attached so easily. Our coop isn't that big it's a gothic church my husband built for the 7 that we have and not these chicks that we now have. All our chickens free range in the fenced backyard so they are only in there to sleep but still...There is a nice size run on the right side that is covered with a tarp.

So are all the ones you're trying to get rid of Roos? I don't know anyone who wants a Roo but maybe someone who may want some hens. Let me know. Thanks Chickster!

I know what you mean. Nothing against anyone with hatchery chicks- I have four. My Polish are a mess of the standard! But this little boy/girl got the worst of it. Crossed beak, white in hair. The other one has lacing that looks like a train wreck. I'm hoping the hatchery Phoenix 2 will be ok looking- will find out if I show them. My Polish with the crossed beak- the sweetest of all the chicks. Even sweeter than the Silkies (who protest when I pic them up. The other Polish with stand on my feet, but doesn't like to be held. My train wreck Polish love it. My favorite of my chickens. They are all in their teens.

Pam I love his "hat", hee, hee looks like it could stroll down the runway in France :) My cross beak, "Broke Beak", is such a sweetie always running in the house when I open the door and flying up to the counter to see what treats I have for her. I can catch her rather easily but none of mine come up to me wanting to be held. I think I was kind of scared of holding them too much when they were young. I am spending more time with these little ones in hopes of having that close bond. I still love this crest on your baby!!!

Thanks so much! I held them all as babies- but they still are afraid. I didn't hold them until they were 3 weeks old or so. I was afraid of holding them too much, too.

I have a polish that got the worst end of the stick too. But he/she is a mess. Half of a hat, crooked toes & vision problems. We hand raised 'her' because she couldn't keep up with the others at all. We were afraid she would be trampled. Well, it turns out that she has vision problems. We thought she was completely blind but now that she's older about 8-9 weeks old) I'm noticing that she still can't aim straight if I feed her straight from my hand, but she can aim better when she is standing on the ground and her bowl is on the ground. She has also started jumping at us when she hears us coming. She's used to being held so, I'm hoping that's why she's started jumping.

Skippy is my silkie x with the slipped tendon. Talk about spoiled. He is rotten. He doesn't stay with the others. Poor thing still stays in a brooder in the carport. The others don't accept him. Not even Little Bit, my visually impaired polish. He gets his own personal golf cart ride everyday to the coop to eat grass
ad bugs while I do chores (he never goes inside the coop/run). He pecks around until he's noticed that I'm in a different place . Then he flaps his little wings as hard as he can and hops on one foot until he's right between my feet. We were going to cull him but I've become so attached. He's such a fighter. He's the
same age as Little Bit so, he's growing. He's going to need another house soon.

Cindersga, I have a couple of hens that are bantam mixes but as far as my silkies go, I'm guessing so many roos because of behavior & the big walnut combs & waddles. A few of my hens do the posture dance like they're sizing each other up. Lol. I love to watch them. I could be wrong about all of the roos though. Although, some of them have started to crow. So funny..

What a beautiful day in west central ga..........Picked butter peas, and weeded strawberry plants. A really great day except for a mongrel dog that appeared on our farm property and was intent on ill will. This hasn't happened in a long time but our guards changed his/her mind! Never a dull moment on a farm!

The day has finally arrived... I have to find a new home for David Bowie.

He was tossed over my fence (along with some siblings) many months ago and I'm not sure of his breed or his age. He's a Silkie something! His four brothers were jerks and were thankfully eaten by a neighbor, but David Bowie has always been a good boy and a joy to have around. Unfortunately for him, the dominant rooster is a game cock so it stands to reason David Bowie is never going to win any hens of his own and could get seriously hurt trying improve his status. If you have room in your flock for this lovable doofus, I'd be happy to bring him to you.

I guess we are all just softies at heart. I can't imagine chicken life without my Broke Beak. I'm glad you didn't cull Skippy or Little Bit. I hope you and I both don't have a bunch of roos. I won't know for 4-5 months so I'll just enjoy them right now as little babies.

I am just loving the pictures. Thanks, ya'll, for posting them. I have 11 Ameraucauna's that aren't quite so beautiful as yours, but I love them! Looking forward to eggs soon, I keep checking their nest boxes every couple of days, but none yet. They are only 4months, so it is all hopeful thinking...but it might happen.

Hey Pam - no, Ellijay in Gilmer County, No. Ga. But love getting to know BYC keepers anywhere in Ga. Recently spoke with Elaine at Mountain View Farms about getting some POL pullets next spring. We also spoke of getting together and visiting Taylor Hobby Farms in Dalton. The idea of visiting fellow farms in Georgia would be a great way to get to know everyone. Have a fabulous weekend!
