Take the babies with you your grandkids will love itOMG! I almost killed all my babies! I have been busy cleaning and my DH went and facetimed our grandson and was showing him all the chicks, so I assumed he checked on water/food/temp, etc. Wrong! I finally got down there around 10 and all the chicks were piled on top of each other in the extreme corners of the brooder!!! Not one was moving. I even nudged a few and they just laid there! I immediately turned off the heat lamp and checked the water.....gone! not one drop! Ran and got fresh water and one by one dipped their beaks in the water! It became a free-for-all for the water! MY POOR BABIES!!!! Changed the heat lamp for a regular light bulb, (but will have to monitor that since it is suppose to go down to 14 degrees tomorrow night! ) They are all back to normal, chirping away and eating and playing! Thank goodness! But, I am leaving town next week and my DH is in charge of the chickens. Ugh. Every time I go somewhere to visit, something dies! I hate going anywhere, but my grandkids need me for a week! I know he tries, but he really doesn't pay attention to details! (like an empty waterer!)
I will also be looking for RIR and Sex Link hatching eggs. I am just bringing a dozen barnyard mix for GAM to take for the school hatch. With all the rain we got yesterday and last night my eggs are going to be muddy. I hope Friday's eggs will be clean enough to get a dozen for GAM. I need more hens so I can get more eggs.So how many of you are planning on taking hatching eggs to sell? I was wondering because then I could keep them for a week and join the hatch-a-long, any dom's, buffs or RIR's
Yes, If possible take the chicks with you like katsdar said. If not you may be constantly calling your DH to see if he is taking care of them. I'm so glad they are all ok!OMG! I have the link now. I am going to email them & see how I can get a female for him. Thanks for evething.I'm no expert on the breed. I did find a picture of a rooster that looks a lot like yours. I have posted the links below. The first link goes to the Ameraucana breeders club scrapbook. The second link is for the actual picture of a Silver Ameraucana (Large Fowl) http://www.ameraucana.org/scrapbook.html http://www.ameraucana.org/scrapbook_files/lfsilverm.JPG Edited to add another link about Ameraucanas. http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2011/09/ameraucana-easter-egger-or-araucana.html She tells all about them. We have a Rooster that has the shape like your Ameraucana but he is not of the correct colors to meet qualification to be an Amercauna so he is an Easter Egger. He is a Big Boy and that is what we call him. Another reason our Big Boy is not qualified as an Ameraucana is because he has the wrong leg color. His legs are green. He is Gorgeous! Is he a Silver Ameraucana? Thank you. I love him.I'm not sure about him being a Silver Americauna. I rescued him and five other hens. 1 Leghorn, JG, 2other I am not sure if the breed. They guy told me a RIR![]()
