I'm from Washington GA! We're are near Augusta and Athens!
Hello from Coweta Co!
Anyone notice an increase in snakes this year? I have noticed a big increase, a couple of weeks ago it was a ratsnake in the coop, then the dogs caught a kingsnake, yesterday there was a young timber rattler in the hen house.

Course when I spotted the timber rattler the bantam and her two chicks were in the coop so there I am in shorts grabbing her and the chicks and putting them in a crate, then using a broom to encourage Mr. Rattler to use the back chick door and get OUT. Mr. Rattler was dead set on escaping the way he came in (through the main chicken door) and it took a while for him to discover the other door. I have noticed that before, when confronted they want to exit the way they came in and they don't look around for other alternatives.

I have a feeling it is only going to get worse as the summer goes on.
Ya know? I have. Not that it's been all that many. I know we have tons of 'em I just rarely see them. In the past week, twice. which for us is a lot. I have no idea what kind they are, but since getting the chickens, I'm guessing I'm gonna have to familiarize myself with what kinds of snakes I need to be looking out for. I don't mind them, I just don't want to see them or be near them. I've only ever touched a ball python or other "pet" snakes.

Flower the olive you gave me is growing so gorgeous and is SO funny!! The two young cockerels decided to gang up on her in the pen after the big boys left.. Boy did they have another thing coming!! Next thing I hear is a huge fuss, and see her chasing BOTH of them and they're acting like they're dying. :lau :lau

Some coop pics. Still needs a couple of tweaks. The nest boxes need the roof metal added & a couple of gaps in the door tightened up. The metal on the roof needs to be trimmed. It should've been done before I installed it but I knew the waiting game on that was gonna be too long and these birds really needed to be out of the house. It's a hot mess, but it's dry, clean and warm. A little too warm. I usually have a box fan strapped to the pop door so their first few days on house arrest won't be like living in an oven. You can see where I have a small piece of HC over the doorway so they can't get into the fan & so other animals can't get in. I close it up at night. I am slowly getting them used to being outdoors and ready for the run. They seem pretty happy so far. And every time I see Stanley I have to pick him up and love on him, then I don't want to put him back in.

I just love mine! and yeah I love the rear view of the muffs! I still just have the one rooster crowing, his vioce is getting stronger. It's funny because the other morning Jill and I were sitting on the porch and I told her I hadn't heard him crow since thursday, and as if he heard me, he started singing! I eased down where I could get the camera on video and managed to get the audio. I wonder if the others aren't crowning yet because he's top of the totem pole, or they just aren't ready yet. I see them all sparring a good bit.

on another note, we passed by your place sunday, can't see nothin with all them trees out by the road..........LOL
