YO GEORGIANS! :)

He's doing absolutely awesome!

He plays with Deja and chases the cats out of the room when he's out and about.

I forgot how cute their happy bunny hop was. lol!

How are you? How's hubby?

Yes. The cute factor is pretty insane. LOL If I could have one of every breed, I would.
I'm doing well, DH is doing well. I'm currently trying to figure out how to surprise him for his 50th in November, but he works soooo many side jobs as well as his regular, so trying to get him to take a day off for seemingly no good reason isn't making it easy. I think I have an idea but it will require me to snoop through his phone to get in touch with his 'boss' and some of his coworkers to invite them. I feel a little weird about that. I'm not a fan of invading the privacy of others. Ya know?

How have you been lately?

Anybody have some ideas for tricking Rose into laying IN the nest box instead of in front of it on the coop floor? Blanche is laying too, and she immediately figured out the nest boxes. She laid her first 3 in each box and decided she likes the middle one. Rose however, reaches into the nest box, rolls the decoy egg out onto the floor & lays her egg next to it. Weirdo.

I can't complain too much though, because she faithfully lays an egg almost daily. 5 in 6 days so far. The decoy eggs have been in there almost a month. I would like to get her laying in the box because I suspect Sophia will follow suit. She's starting to show signs that she's gonna start soon.

In other news, I'm also a balloon artist. Here is a chicken.
Cute!!! I like it!!

Really? I was expecting them to start laying for you already. But then again, I just read somewhere that reality is that most of the time it's 26-30wks before they start laying. Large breeds, anyway. Not saying it doesn't happen earlier, based on everyone's experiences shared here. I guess it means that there's nothing wrong with them if they don't start til then. Sophia's about to start week 28. In her case, I think it has everything to do with her being at the bottom of the pecking order (did I mention I hate the pecking order? she is the sweetest, gentlest chicken out there) because she is developing the slowest. I noticed today she really doesn't get much to eat, or a whole lot of treats. I knew this was the case but I didn't realize until today, just how much she's left out. Glad I started beefing things up for her in the last couple weeks. I took to separating her out a tiny bit when the others aren't paying attention and giving her a little extra just to make sure she gets something. As far as the signs, her wattles & comb are about where the others were when they started, all the red faced stuff, but mainly I noticed she's 'practicing'. I'll go check for eggs from the other 2 and notice a nice little nest carved out in the bedding. I know it's her because each bird has chosen a specific spot of their own when they were doing it. And I notice she'll start to run up the ramp to go back in the coop as if she's on a mission. then she comes back out a couple minutes later like it was a false alarm. The other 2 did the same. I expect her to lay one in the next couple of weeks, I guess. I'm glad we only have 3 old enough to lay right now. It gives me a chance to figure out who's laying what where.

The fun thing about laying hens and learning...is that you will learn which hen lays what colored egg and how the shape. I can tell my hens apart easily. I love just the slightest differences in all the eggs make it easy to tell who is laying them. So soon......I feel like Jinny should be laying any day...her comb and wattles are the same color red as the roosters and her ear lobes are extremely white. LoL!!! She is super pretty. Lovie Dovie...or Lovie D as I like to call her is finally starting to get red combs and wattles but they are smaller and not as large and floppy. LoL!!!

Well, I'm heading to bed now. Got all my chicks out of the incubator around mid day except for one that's still rocking but hasn't pipped. Not sure how it'll do but only time will tell.

For now, Papa's chicks are stars of the show.. Eight out so far if you're reading, PapaChaz. They're cute but I have NO idea what baby came from which egg, lol. Oh an your Leghorn egg has a nice big pip now too.

:) Night everyone.
