YO GEORGIANS! :)

Is it bad that I have classes with full incubators, a cabinet at home that is full, and I need to set up more? That's normal, right?

(A lot of the eggs at the house are being started for school projects ... I'll move them to their classes around day 7-10.)

You know, maybe I should teach hatching classes. I can see where that would be very awarding. What happens to all the chicks? That's the only part of hatching that scares me.....knowing I have to find homes for them all. I am always afraid I will have a million chicks and nobody will want them!

A lot of the families are interested in them. I am sure to always speak with the parent(s) to explain the husbandry needs of the chicks through the different stages of development before I allow them to take any home. Sometimes we buy eggs of specific birds that we want so they go to the farm. I also have request throughout the year for birds so we house a lot of them until they sell. The only birds that I have too many of at any point are the ducks. (I am very careful about hatching ducks in classes for this very reason.)

It really is so rewarding. I like teaching anyway but when you combine it with a subject that you love ... doesn't get much better. And I never get tired of seeing and hearing their excited reactions when we candle the eggs at various stages.

LOL! LOVE IT! Especially the chair! Like your personal office! Well, for me, it is a hobby/business! Oh, BTW, have you guys all renewed your poultry license? I just got my new one in the mail a few days ago.
How much business requires a poultry license? I know I don't need one at the moment because most of what I am hatching is for other people mostly. I do plan to sell in the future and have wondered about a licence. I am waiting on chicks and hatching eggs from Greenfire Farms and a few other places. I think I have figured out what breeds I am going with so now I need to sell some of what I have already to make room for the new ones. I do plan to sell hatching eggs once I get all of my different lines together. Also wondering if anyone has experience with bans on the legs? I need to keep different lines separate and that is about the only way I can do it.

My setup..I think one of these is older than me. Not hard to figure out which one it is. HAHA!
I been asked: When are you considered out of control? I say when I have no more room to add another one.

Hubby is making me a cabinet incubator. I'm picking up a third turner (so that will be 3 of 4) And my Farm Innovators will be a hatcher.

Anyhow, birds are loaded, guess it's almost time to head to Mcdonough.
I have my bright jacket and shoes for anyone trying to find me :)

Did anyone happen to see the story this month in the Georgia (EMC) magazine about the wild chickens of Fitzgerald. They are Burmese red jungle fowl and have free run of the city. I don't think anyone knows how many there are but it's estimated at one to four thousand. They are beautiful birds! I found this link on youtube that provides some information about them. Thought it was pretty interesting.
